Newcastle United star makes list of the 15 best Premier League players outside the top six
A list has now been published of the best 15 Premier League players at teams outside the top six.
Obviously anything like this is subjective but coming from a neutral perspective it is an interesting selection.
The excellent Four Four Two have published the list and there are some top quality players included.
If combined they would present a formidable team.
With transfer fees rapidly increasing outside the obvious clubs, no surprise to see this list including players who cost £40m or more (Richarlison, Anderson etc).
Whilst others who also cost £40m+ don’t even make the list, such as Sigurdsson at Everton.
Newcastle United have one player included and typical, NUFC don’t even own him.
Mike Ashley wouldn’t even let Rafa Benitez try and buy Salomon Rondon last summer, having to settle for a loan deal.
Rondon saying this week that he wants to stay at Newcastle and has told the club what needs to happen for him to stay – but if they don’t play ball, he will move elsewhere.
The big sticking point is that Salomon Rondon turns 30 in September and other reports claim Mike Ashley is intent on enforcing his preferred policy of only buying players under the age of 25 who can increase in value.
As Four Four Two say below though: ‘Newcastle have their talismanic Venezuelan to thank for being just above water in the survival fight.’
It is about bringing in good players, no matter what their age.
The Four Four Two 15 best Premier League players outside the top six and then their write-up on Salomon Rondon:
1. WILFRIED ZAHA (CRYSTAL PALACE)
2. HARRY MAGUIRE (LEICESTER)
3. RUBEN NEVES (WOLVES)
4. JAMIE VARDY (LEICESTER)
5. MANUEL LANZINI (WEST HAM)
6. MARKO ARNAUTOVIC (WEST HAM)
7. ABDOULAYE DOUCOURE (WATFORD)
8. RAUL JIMENEZ (WOLVES)
9. RICHARLISON (EVERTON)
10. AARON WAN-BISSAKA (CRYSTAL PALACE)
11. FELIPE ANDERSON (WEST HAM)
12. LUCAS DIGNE (EVERTON)
13. JOSHUA KING (BOURNEMOUTH)
14. ISSA DIOP (WEST HAM)
15. SALOMON RONDON (NEWCASTLE)
The Four Four Two write-up on the NUFC striker:
SALOMON RONDON (NEWCASTLE)
2018/19 Premier League: 23 appearances, 7 goals, 4 assists
Rondon is among the most underrated players in the Premier League – just look at his goals return, despite playing for one of the division’s least creative teams.
Newcastle have their talismanic Venezuelan to thank for being just above water in the survival fight.
Rondon wins considerably more in the air than he should, runs his socks off, has a great touch, and is superb at bringing team-mates into play.
