Newcastle United star leaves West Ham match on crutches
Sean Longstaff struggled to impose himself on Saturday’s match but he wasn’t the only one.
Newcastle winning very few second balls as for once the opposition seemed a bit more up for it than the Magpies.
Two goals from set-pieces sealing the visitors’ fate.
As for man of the moment Sean Longstaff, a strong contender for February’s Premier League player of the month, it just wasn’t his day.
Not at his best, Longstaff was yellow carded and then subbed at half-time, Mohamed Diame coming on.
Everybody assumed it was tactical and/or protecting the midfielder from a potential red card.
However, it turns out it was injury that intervened.
Sean Longstaff see leaving the London Stadium on crutches, with reports suggesting it is a knee ligament injury.
Rafa Benitez asked after the defeat how bad the injury to Sean Longstaff was:
“We will see.
“I think he has an injury but we have got to assess him in the next couple of days.
“I think for anyone to have an injury is bad news but for a young player who was doing so well, it is even worse.
“Hopefully it will be fine.”
