Newcastle 3 Everton 2  – Saturday 9 March 3pm

We asked a number of our regular writers to give us a brief instant reaction after the final whistle.

Newcastle going two down in the first half…

Then a mad mad fightback with three second half goals in 19 minutes giving the Magpies a brilliant 3-2 win.

David Punton:

“All hail the comeback kings.

“That was one heck of an afternoon at St James Park. From despair to delight.

“I never saw us coming back from, I really didn’t.

“That first half shafting from today’s referee, Lee Mason, who didn’t send Pickford off and plays on for their second goal, in between a penalty clanger, looked to have sealed the destiny of the points.

“Everton, who have spent a fortune, had held Liverpool last week and would surely hold out here. How wrong I was.

“Rondon, a shade offside, halves the deficit and then Perez with two clinical finishes puts us in dreamland.

“Five wins in a row at home. Rafa taking care of business. Get his blummin contract sorted out!”

Paul Patterson:

“Only at Newcastle United.

“Well done Rafa for keeping the lads fighting.

“Another towering performance from Rondon and crucial goals from Perez again.

“What price a top half finish now?

“Oh and up yours Pickford.”

Jack Lacey-Hatton:

“Incredible.

“Remarkable.

“Brilliance from Newcastle United.

“Great tactical switch from Rafa to turn the game around and special credit to Perez and Rondon who were magnificent.

“A day to savour.”

Nat Seaton:

“Let’s be honest who saw that coming at half time?

“Great fightback and a brilliant 3 points.

“What a feeling!!!”

David McAvelia:

“It’s been too long since I’ve left a match feeling utterly exhausted, voice knackered, throat hoarse, head buzzing, shins bleeding.

“There’s nothing like a pantomime villain to stir up an atmosphere, hats off to Pickford for setting up the day with a penalty save and then assisting Perez for the equaliser.

“It’s the wife’s birthday today and I’m taking her for a swanky meal.

“I’ve just passed the boozer and it’s absolutely jumping. What a way to ruin an absolutely amazing day. Enjoy lads.

“MOTM Perez.

“Enjoy lads and lasses

“Got to be politically correct!”

Brian Standen:

“Disappointing first half.

“Awful penalty but should keeper be on pitch? Debatable!

“Delicious second half.

“Highlighted by a clearly offside third goal- about time!

“Great bottle – well done to all.

“Fact I backed us at HT at 33/1 adds to it.

“Get in!!!!

Toon Bano:

“Get the fu.. in there!!!”
