Michael Owen predicts Bournemouth v Newcastle United

Michael Owen has been looking ahead to the game at Bournemouth on Saturday.

If Newcastle win they will go level on points with Bournemouth and above them on goal difference into 12th.

Bournemouth have had a very up and down season similar to Newcastle’s.

They arrived at St James Park in November in sixth place, Newcastle having won their first game of the season against Watford in the previous match.

It was actually one of the best displays of the season that day, Salomon Rondon scoring twice in a 2-1 win.

That ended up being the second match of a 14 game run (all competitions) where Bournemouth won only two games.

Then beating West Ham 2-0 and Chelsea 4-0 in consecutive home games at the end of January, Bournemouth then went on  another five game run without a victory, until beating Huddersfield 2-0 away last weekend.

Michael Owen has gone for a draw prediction but this could turn out to be any result.

Newcastle are also very unpredictable and whilst Rafa’s team have won five of their last eight PL games, they were all at home.

Their last away win was also at Huddersfield, a 1-0 victory three months ago.

Newcastle do though look to be carrying more goal threat now and with seven goals in the last four games and Rondon, Perez and Almiron looking to combine ever better, just maybe this can be another away win.

Michael Owen talking to BetVictor:

“Newcastle have only picked up two points from the last 18 available on the road, but they showed their resilience and quality to come from two-down to beat Everton at St James Park last weekend.

“Bournemouth returned to winning ways with a comfortable success at Huddersfield at the weekend, but I feel it will be a point apiece back at the Vitality Stadium.

“The Magpies will have to look out for the Ryan Fraser/Callum Wilson axis who have combined for nine PL goals already this season – the last duo to hit double figures were Denis Bergkamp and Nicolas Anelka for Arsenal back in the 1998-99 season.

“Tip: Game to finish in a draw at 5/2.”
