It would be churlish for Newcastle fans not to wish Sunderland well on Sunday…
Well, we have got to wish our esteemed neighbours all the best for this weekend.
The Cherryade Cup Final (Portsmouth v Sunderland on Sunday) might be the first of two Wembley visits and as a true mag, I would like to think they may just win one of them, so let this be it.
Local smartarses are checking out how jealous we are of course…
However, a simple reminder that our visit to Wembley this season (Tottenham 1 Newcastle 0) was in a proper competition.
While they are quite likely to bump into Mickey, Minnie and definitely Goofy, somewhere in the stadium this weekend.
I do believe even our much mackem-maligned successes in the Texaco Cup and Anglo-Italian cups way back. are several layers above this jovial encounter.
Well in the sense that the teams we met were actually first teams and not from the third or fourth divisions and youth team reserves of English football.
Having had the inevitable digs…I do have pals that are going, so I hope it’s a great day out with much merriment.
The play-offs will provide their true ‘terror’ in the coming months and those will be very entertaining encounters for every north east football fan across the divides of Boro, Sunderland and Newcastle.
Another Charlton finale perhaps…
As for this weekend, c’mon Sunderland, bring home the pop!
