Former top referee rules on Newcastle v Everton controversial Jordan Pickford incident
Dermot Gallagher reviews controversial decisions in the Premier League after each round of games, on behalf of Sky Sports, and has given his call on these this Newcastle v Everton match incident.
The incident in question happening in the 29th minute.
Everton a goal up but then Jordan Pickford dropping an easy catch.
The ball dropping behind him and Salomon Rondon set to knock the ball into the unguarded net, only to find himself rugby tackled to the ground.
No attempt to play the ball and Newcastle fans waiting for the red card as well as the penalty.
No red card, a poor penalty saved by Pickford, then 60 seconds later Everton make it 2-0 at the other end.

The former top ref declaring Lee Mason got his decision completely wrong and explaining: ‘There is no defence whatsoever for not sending the player off because he has grabbed him around the waist. He has no intention of going for the ball and he has stopped Rondon from getting to the ball.’

“And [Kurt] Zouma is a red herring as he will not get to the ball.
“So it is a penalty and a red card.”
