England Squad announced – Jordan Pickford clings onto his place

No surprise to see no Newcastle United players named in this latest England squad.

Wednesday afternoon seeing Gareth Southgate name a 25 man squad.

As expected, Declan Rice is named for the first time after deserting the Republic of Ireland.

Interesting to see how the England Squad breaks down in terms of how many in each group are from top six clubs.

For strikers it is three of the five, although Jadon Sancho isn’t doing too badly in the Bundesliga…

Five of the seven midfielders are from top six clubs, whilst six of ten defenders are from the ‘big six’ clubs.

Most noticeable perhaps is that none of the goalkeepers are from top ten clubs, never mind top six, suggesting this isn’t exactly a strong point for the national team these days.

Everton are 11th in the table with Jordan Pickford still named in the England Squad despite his comical display at Newcastle, whilst Tom Heaton of 17th placed Burnley is in the squad, plus Jack Butland of Stoke, who are 17th in the Championship.

Tom Heaton, Jack Butland, Jordan Pickford

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ben Chilwell, Michael Keane, Harry Maguire, Danny Rose, Luke Shaw, John Stones, Kieran Trippier, Kyle Walker, James Tarkowski

Ross Barkley, Dele Alli, Fabian Delph, Eric Dier, Jordan Henderson, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Declan Rice

Harry Kane, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Raheem Sterling, Callum Wilson
