Elias Sorensen speaks out after winning award and meets Alan Shearer
A great moment for Elias Sorensen.
The 19 goal striker was back in Newcastle on Thursday night at a Sport Newcastle dinner at Newcastle Civic Centre, with the 19 year old Danish striker picking up a special award.
The Wor Jackie Trophy honours the late, great former Magpies forward Jackie Milburn and every year a rising NUFC star is presented with it.
After receiving the award, the young Danish striker declared: ‘I feel very honoured to win this trophy. Many other very good players have won it before so I’m very proud.’
The 16 previous winners include the likes of Andy Carroll, Peter Ramage, Freddie Woodman and Adam Armstrong.
This is the year of Elias Sorensen though and his 19 goals for the NUFC Under 23s in the first half of this season clinched it.
As well as the award for Elias Sorensen, Newcastle defender Liam Gibson picked up the Jack Hixon Trophy at last night’s awards.
Even better for Elias Sorensen and Liam Gibson, they got to meet the legend that is Alan Shearer.
Elias Sorensen talking to official club site after picking up the Wor Jackie trophy (NUFC young player of the year):
“It is a massive achievement.
“I feel very honoured to win this trophy.
“Many other very good players have won it before so I’m very proud.
“Since I have come to Newcastle, I’ve improved massively and the first half of this season showed what I was capable of.”

Whilst defender Liam Gibson has battled back from serioius illness to win the Jack Hixon trophy (for most promising young NUFC player):
“I think the award is the final cherry on top of the cake.
“I’m really pleased to win the award and when you look at the past winners – the likes of Sean Longstaff – he’s now got several Premier League appearances to his name so hopefully I can push on and maybe get to where he is.
“I’m trying to put all the negatives in the past now and I just want to play football.
“Hopefully I’ll have a future at Newcastle.”
