DeAndre Yedlin thinks it is vital that Rafa Benitez stays at Newcastle United beyond this season.

The Newcastle defender declaring ‘As we all know, all the fans love him, the players love him and it would be great if he stayed.’

Only nine matches remaining before Rafa’s current contract runs out.

With Mike Ashley’s ownership so divisive at the club, the Spaniard’s presence has been even more important.

The former Spurs player stating ‘I think everyone has seen how he has brought the city together.’

An interesting team selection for Rafa Benitez on Saturday, with DeAndre Yedlin surely coming back in for Javier Manquillo who was poor at West Ham.

One change that will have to be made is due to Sean Longstaff, who left the London Stadium on crutches, set to be missing. No update as yet on how serious his injury is likely to be but it will be surely at least weeks he will be missing at the very best outcome.

DeAndre Yedlin claims he knew the midfielder’s potential before he got his chance in the first team in the new year, Yedln saying ‘He was one of the best players in pre-season. He is a humble lad, just keeps his head down and does the work that he needs to do and it is showing.’

DeAndre Yedlin talking to Sky Sports:

“I think it’s very important [for Newcastle United to convince Rafa Benitez to stay].

“I think everyone has seen how Rafa Benitez has brought the city together.

“Even though we may not have started the season the best, we’ve ended very well, so I think it’s very important.

“As we all know, all the fans love him, the players love him and it would be great if he stayed.

“I think we have finally found that chemistry that we’ve needed.

“We are playing as a team right now, we are defending as a team and attacking as a team, whereas earlier in the year I don’t think that was the case.

“Everybody has sort of found their form and everything is clicking now.

“Everybody is sort of starting to see it in the public [with Sean Longstaff] but we saw it in pre-season.

“He was one of the best players in pre-season.

“He has done excellent.

“Credit to him.

“He is a humble lad, just keeps his head down and does the work that he needs to do and it is showing.”
