Bournemouth fans comments on Newcastle United, Matt Ritchie and Newcastle fans arrested
Bournemouth fans watched on as former player Matt Ritchie denied the win in the final seconds.
A cracking volley meaning the match ended 2-2.
Maybe not the highest quality match as the wind was a major factor.
However, there was still plenty of decent football and no shortage of incidents or talking points.
Newcastle fans arrested, to Mike Dean’s refereeing, penalty decisions and Matt Ritchie, this is what Bournemouth fans have had to say.
Bournemouth fans comment via their Up The Cherries message board:
‘Bad timing (7 Newcastle fans arrested after Ritchie goal celebrations) from them I guess after the Grealish Incident .
From what I saw this resulted when a load of pi..ed up / pi..ed off fans gathered on the concourse after the Mepham back pass pen incident that wasn’t given.
Then they scored and I’m pretty sure I saw some poor sods getting pushed over the barrier in the crush that followed .
All those who ended up on the other side of the barrier appear to have been arrested.
Why does this always happen here? I recall that several Everton fans escaped punishment by saying they were pushed onto the pitch during their infamous little pitchie.’
‘It’s how far we’ve come. Getting a 2-2 at little old AFCB is now a massive thing.’
‘Free nice summer holiday for them when they appear in court in a couple of months.’
‘Eddie won’t be happy with that goal, great strike but no pressure on Ritchie as the ball came over.’
‘Of all the left feet in all the world…it had to fall to that one. Matt Ritchie had done all the right things on his return, clapping most parts of the ground at various points for having his name sang or being given a standing ovation for taking a corner. It was great manners…we were all feeling warm inside…and then…when the ball hung invitingly in the air towards the edge of the area he smote the left foot we used to worship through the ball and it was past his buddy Boruc before you could say ‘shouldn’t the referee have blown for full time’…’
‘If you thought Lerma was lucky not to be sent off, surely Perez should have gone before that for the lunge on Fraser? – reckless and not in control – and left Fraser hobbling for most of the first half.’
‘Seemed convenient that he was finally ‘fouled’ 25 yards from goal, with two defenders around him, within shooting distance. Dive.’
‘Agree, it was a foul. Not a lot of contact, but their guy was running at pace. If it was Fraser, we would be screaming for it.’
‘Kingy was excellent but again he doesn’t like tracking back. He failed to track Ritchie, or crowd him out.’
Wind didn’t help.
Ref’s seem to have Lerma as a marked man.
No protection for Fraser and Brooks in the first half, Dean finally booked one of theirs later.
Much better second half for us.
Atsu caused us problems when he came on.
Matt Ritchie, good goal, especially after THAT wayward free kick earlier.
Probably a fair result, Newcastle are a pretty good team.’
‘Tough to take but probably fair.
Ritchie was actually very restrained in his celebration, watching it back. Very classy. Considering it’s a last minute equaliser.’
‘Celebrating another goal bonus on his big contract. Ritchie Rich.
Tough one to take that. Feels like a loss especially with him scoring.’
‘He applauded the Ted Mac at his first corner of the second half. Clearly still has a soft spot for the club but damn him for that cracking last minute heart breaker. I disagree with the post above, struggling to see what wages have to do with anything.’
‘He wanted to leave and I’m holding a grudge.’
‘You aren’t the only one judging by the reaction from some after that free kick of his…. shame it came back to bite us. I thought a draw was a deserved result.
Newcastle look solid, two evenly matched teams in the PL’s second tier.’
‘For me they were one of the weakest teams I’ve seen this season. that said, a draw was a fair result.’
‘Ffs. Quality finish by Ritchie, no idea how he kept it down when you look at his body shape. Should be over the stand.’
‘Rondon must have an amazing record vs us through the leagues. Feels like a boogie player to me. Hate it when we play him!’
‘Perez was VERY professional making a 50-50 with Lerma look like a leg breaker and while his teammates try to get him sent off.
Looked a dive from that bald player, ran into Ibe and collapsed in prime free kick territory
Also allowed ourselves to be bullied with wall position they had three players pushing the wall.’
