Bournemouth fans comments on Newcastle United ahead of Saturday – Healthy respect

Bournemouth fans have experienced a similarly strange up and down season as Newcastle supporters have.

They arrived at St James Park in November in sixth place and Newcastle put in one of their best performances of the season for a 2-1 win.

Salomon Rondon got both goals and the Bournemouth fans are seeing a greater threat posed this time, with Rondon now part of what looks a promising trio with Almiron and Perez.

The home side though have their own threats, England striker Wilson has scored 11 goals with 6 assists and Fraser 6 goals and 10 assists.

Only three clubs have conceded more goals than Bournemouth, which should give Newcastle plenty of encouragement, and whilst no club outside the top seven has conceded less than Newcastle, the home fans are taking inspiration from Schar’s suspension and Lascelles potentially missing through injury.

Bournemouth ended five games without a victory when beating Huddersfield 2-0 away last weekend, whilst Rafa’s team have won five of their last eight PL games, though they were all at home.

Newcastle’s last away win was also at Huddersfield, a 1-0 victory three months ago.

Bournemouth could go top half with a win, whilst for Newcastle they would go above the Cherries on goal difference into 12th, with 37 points surely ensuring their route to safety.

Bournemouth fans commenting via their Up The Cherries message board:

‘Bit worried about the partnership/movement of Rondon and Perez, especially with Almiron now feeding them and Shelvey back from injury; Mepham’s positioning is probably the only thing that has been at fault in his performances so far. Hopefully he can iron it out a bit and not go wandering like he did vs Arsenal.

With the home advantage and a weakened Newcastle defence, I would hope we can win this game- but it has been quite a difficult one in recent years.

We should make sure to get the first goal so that they can’t shut up shop for the afternoon.’

‘Newcastle Player To Watch…

In their recent game against Everton, Salomón Rondon and Ayoze Perez had a good partnership for Newcastle in their victory.

Rondon scored the first and was assisted by Perez, Rondon then made the assist for Perez to score the winner.

Rondon scored both goals against us earlier in the season at St James’ Park. Rondon has scored 8 goals and 5 assists, with Perez on 6 goals and 2 assists.

Last season at Dean Court Jonjo Shelvey had a good game in midfield, he has only recently returned after being out with an injury.’

‘Watched the 30 minute Sky highlights of their game against Everton, Perez and Rondon seem to have a good understanding as mentioned in preview.

In midfield Shelvey has been out since January and has only just returned to the side, so hopefully not firing on all cylinders.

We have good partnerships up front as well with Josh King and David Brooks when fully back to fitness as well as Wilson and Fraser.’

‘Big one to keep up the momentum from last week. Good to be home. With Watford and Wolves both postponed, 3 points would really close the gap … much rather have the points than a game in hand.’

‘Time to overturn the result at Newcastle earlier in the season. Revenge is sweet.’

‘Saw someone on twitter quote one of their local reporters saying ‘united are a better team than Bournemouth’

‘I think we will edge this one. They have hit a bit of form of late though.’

‘This game promises to be A Ripper….it could go 3-2 or 4-3!

Hopefully a more sober, clean-sheetery 2 or 3 nil…for us. Rondon might have a say in that though!

So Callum needs to go Big Diva …and claim his Dancefloor with a Swaggering Quickstep Boom Boom…ready for his England Stage!’

‘A chance for Mepham to really stake a claim for a regular starting place ….up against Rondon who gave Ake and Cookie a going over in the away game….will be interesting to see how he gets on.’

‘As much as we would like to win a draw would be a good result – Rondon and Perez will be a handful but Wilson and King can be too.’

‘This is going to be a great match. As usual I think brooks will be the difference maker behind the scenes. Lerma will hold fast. And Fraser and Wilson will fly!

(Wilson has scored 11 goals with 6 assists and Fraser 6 goals and 10 assists, only Eden Hazard has more with 11 assists. Could be an interesting battle in midfield between Jefferson Lerma and Jonjo Selvey.)’
