Bournemouth 2 Newcastle 2 – Instant United fan/writer reaction to Saturday’s dramatic draw

Bournemouth 2 Newcastle 2  – Saturday 16 March 3pm

We asked a number of our regular writers to give us a brief instant reaction after the final whistle.

Newcastle one up and then two-one down.

Deservedly grabbing a last second draw with a quality Ritchie volley.

Kevin Christie:

“Would’ve taken a point beforehand and had predicted 1-1, so it didn’t work out all that different in reality.

“Difficult conditions for both sides and game wasn’t much of a spectacle until well into the second half.

“First half was very bitty and didn’t flow at all and, if I’m honest, we were lucky to go into the break with that 1-0 lead.

“Bournemouth were a different team in the second period and we were maybe a bit fortunate to sneak the point as we had struggled to create anything all afternoon

“I found their penalty a bit soft but Rafa will have been raging at our defence for their second.

“We were determined and resolute as always though, so, that allowed us to stay in the game and be in a position to nick the point.

“Sneaking a goal in added time at the end of each half speaks volumes for the character, belief and commitment of the side.

“So well done to Rafa and the coaching staff for that.

“It’s always fun to get a last-minute goal and I was delighted for Ritchie – what a strike!

“Will do his confidence the world of good after his penalty miss against Everton.

“Rondón’s free-kick was always going in as well.

“Would’ve bet my house on it beforehand – funny how you can just get a feeling for these things sometimes!

“Will be an absolute travesty if he’s not here next season as he’s settled in so well and is vital to how Rafa wants us to play. That’s for another day though…

“All in all, a battling never-say-die performance, two nice goals and another welcome point!”

David Punton:

“More late drama for NUFC.

“Ritchie with the heroics.

“One of them draws that feels like a win.”

Paul Patterson:

“Ritchie and Rondon were immense today.

“Never knock an away point.

“Especially when we have been winning at home.”

Jonathan Drape-Comyn:

“In the grand scheme of things a good result and one point closer to mathematical safety.

“Good character to come back again at the end of the game.

“Should have been three points but let down immensely by the referee.

“No way in a month of Sundays is that a penalty. Very hard done by.

“I also find it incredible that referees can look at instances like Dubravka vs Wolves and say ‘no foul’ and then in this instance say ‘foul’ and the FA will look at it and say they are both right. How can that be?

“Should have also given Lerma a red card in the first half, although I accept that one is debatable.

“Mike Dean has been stealing a living for too long now… not just in relation to Newcastle United.

“Bournemouth a decent side and at the end of the day, a good result as we continue a great run of form.”

Nat Seaton:

“I would have taken a point before the game with Bournemouth having such a good home record, but to score like we did at the death makes it oh such a sweet point…

“I’m leaving the stadium smiling, it almost feels like a win!!!

“Great to go into the international break on an up.”

Toon Bano:

“What a hit son!!! What a hit!!

“It would have been a crime to lose that game.

“Typically Mike Dean played his part in giving them a soft pen but not for us.

“Lerma should have been sent off also in first half.

“I’l take a finish like that and another point towards safety.

Jamie Smith:

“What a hit.”

“I said I would take a point and that’ll do.

“Hopefully we can continue to look up.

“News that the Palace game goes ahead gives hope that the 3 points minimum requirement can be hit sooner than later.”

Jack Lacey-Hatton:

“What a goal. What a huge point. We competed for 90 minutes and deserved that.

“Referee error and poor decision making from Fernandez cost us.

“Could be a great draw come the end of the season.”
