Whatever happened to Yasin Ben El-Mhanni?

Yasin Ben El-Mhanni was the player at the centre of the allegations against Peter Beardsley.

It is now 13 months since the whole thing came into the public view and Beardsley agreed to stay away from Newcastle United until the investigation into claims of bullying had been concluded.

Whilst recent weeks have seen claims that this investigation will soon be concluded and an announcement by the club, life has gone on.

Yasin Ben El-Mhanni was released by the club at the end of June (2018) and was left without a club.

However, some four months after being released by Newcastle, the winger joined Scunthorpe at the end of October, on a deal until the end of the 2018/19 season.

So how has the 23 year old been getting on at the League One club?

They are currently 14th in the table and the former NUFC player has made six appearances in all competitions.

El-Mhanni made four league appearances in November and December, two starts and two sub appearances, the last on 29 December.

As well as a start in the Checkatrade Trophy, he also came on as a sub in the FA Cup defeat to Shrewsbury in early December.

No first team action since December but on Tuesday, Yasin Ben El-Mhanni played in a behind closed doors friendly against a Sheffield Wednesday eleven, the game ended 3-3 with El-Mhanni hitting the woodwork twice.

His big aim now must surely to be to try and get back into the first team and convince Scunthorpe to extend his contract beyond the end of the season.

Whether a decision/announcement will be made on Peter Beardsley by Newcastle United before then (May/end of this season), remains to be seen.
