Tottenham 1 Newcastle 0  – Saturday 2 February 12.30pm

We asked a number of our regular writers to give us a brief instant reaction after the final whistle.

Newcastle putting in a committed display, with the odd moment in the Spurs half.

Woodwork struck for both teams but Son hits a late winner with Dubravka at fault.

Ben Cooper:

“Very disappointing to lose a game in the last ten minutes to a goalkeeping error after the team had given so much but I thought for the last 20 minutes Spurs were too good for us.

“The first 70 minutes were a good and entertaining contest and though they had more chances, we had plenty of attacking intent in spells and good chances fell to Perez and Rondon, who was unlucky to hit the post with a header.

“We were knackered by the time the goal went in and in the end had no response to their late fortune.

“Good performance though, a good game and we are starting to look like a team that can survive with a bit to spare.”

David Punton:

“Hugely disappointing to lose that.

“One costly error from Martin Dubravka has decided it.

“I feel for him because he’s been brilliant for us since he came in.

“Given the players we had missing this was a decent effort against a Spurs side with a bit more quality.

“Despite the reverse it has still been quite a good week by NUFC standards and we can look ahead to the new players coming in and continuing the battle for Premier League safety.”

Paul Patterson:

“Cruel cruel cruel.

“Not going to blame Dubravka.

“Let’s hope other results go our way.”

Jack Lacey-Hatton:

“For me that was a great performance.

“Yes an annoying goal to lose too, but we played well and were in the game right until the end.

“Rondon and Perez were excellent in particular, showing great fight and holding up the ball well.

“If we play like that every game from now til the end of the season we will be ok.”

Nat Seaton:

“Gutted to lose like that, terrible error from the keeper.

“We worked hard, defended well and had a couple of chances to nick it ourselves.

“Glad to see the back of Wembley (again)…”

Brian Standen:

“Disappointing result but again positive performance.

“Created enough, as did they, to justify a win but not to be!

“Churlish to criticise Dubravka as he has played so well but these things happen.

“It’s a team, it’s a start, let’s build.

“Was Ashley here?

“Roll on next game.”

Anthony Stafford:

“Rafa please please stop it….Stop defending with no great intent on attacking.

“78% possession Tottenham says it all.

“Also, is there a passing coach at nufc?

“Boot up the pitch to an isolated loan striker, goal conceded, no plan b.

“Horrible to watch but acceptable so long as we hold on but we rarely do .

“Now watch all the bottom teams win miraculously….”
