The clubs with biggest Matchday Revenue figures in the World – Newcastle United rank despite no ambition and no European football
Figures have been published showing the football clubs who have the greatest Matchday Revenue in the World.
The excellent Swiss Ramble (a Swiss based English bloke who collates information and writes great pieces on the business of football) has produced a table of the top earning clubs around the globe.
The football finance expert producing the table as part of a feature on Atletico Madrid.
The La Liga club have the 12th highest matchday revenue in the World for the (last) 2017/18 season.
The successful Spanish club banked 57m euros (£50.3m)
Newcastle United are 19th highest in the world with 27m euros (£23.9m) when it comes to matchday revenue.
However, whilst almost every club above them in the list had European football, which in reality was Champions League not Europa League for most, as well as a significant number of domestic cup matches.
In total, Newcastle were knocked out instantly at home by Nottingham Forest in the League Cup, then managed a home win over Luton in the FA Cup (losing at Chelsea in the fourth round).
If you look at the list below, apart from the predictable six, West Ham were the only other English club to finish above Newcastle in this table and that was only very marginally.
