Steve Bruce impressed with training and ‘attitude’ shown by Achraf Lazaar and Rolando Aarons

Steve Bruce says that January signings Dominic Iorfa, Rolando Aarons and Achraf Lazaar will all get their chance this season.

When taking charge of the team at the end of January, on deadline day Bruce bought Iorfa as well as loaning the Newcastle pair.

The new Sheffield Wednesday boss even went of his way to thanks Newcastle United for their generosity.

When Steve Bruce took over, the Owls were 11 points off relegation and 11 points off the play-offs.

After a 1-0 win over Ipswich and goalless draws against Reading and Millwall, Sheff Wed find themselves 11 points off the play-offs and 12 points off the relegation zone.

With only 15 games left, they need to put a run together if they are going to have any chance of getting close to the play-offs. They do ave a game in hand on most clubs and tomorrow they face local rivals Rotherham.

Of the three deadline day signings, only Rolando Aarons has played so far, even that has only been 29 minutes over two sub appearances.

However, Steve Bruce says that he felt it was important to give the existing players their chance to show what they could do initially, before potentially turning to the new arrivals.

Whilst you get the impression it might not always have been the case with them at Newcastle…Bruce insists that Achraf Lazaar and Rolando Aarons have shown great attitude and trained well.

The manager saying they will get their chance in the weeks and months ahead.

Both players still have two years left on their contracts after this season and little doubt Newcastle would love to be able to move them on.

Steve Bruce talking to official Sheffield Wednesday site:

“I think it was vitally important that the squad had done okay when I walked in and I didn’t think it would be far if I hadn’t seen them play and just threw the three new lads in.

“They’ve been here now for two weeks, so as long as I have.

“Certainly the way they have trained they are there or thereabouts and they’ll get their chance, of course.

“I’ve been delighted with their attitude and our form has quietly let them integrate into the team and they’ll have a part to play that’s for sure.”
