The question we are asking  today is ‘Should Rafa Benitez be expected to sign new contract after Mike Ashley January backing?’

This latest transfer window seeing two players arrive.

The 23 year old left-back/wing-back Antonio Barreca coming in on loan from Monaco.

Whilst the big news was that after 12 years Mike Ashley has finally allowed the club’s 2005 transfer record to be beaten, Miguel Almiron signed for a reported £16m rising to £21m with add-ons, much of that extra cash said to be payable only if Newcastle stay up this season.

Newspaper reports on Sunday morning claim Mike Ashley has given Rafa Benitez a six week deadline where he expects him to sign a new three year contract.

The reports detailing that Ashley thinks he has done enough to show his backing, to expect Rafa to commit now.

So taking everything into consideration, would Mike Ashley be right to expect that Rafa Benitez should be now signing a contract extension?
