Newcastle United to break club transfer record in May – The Mail
An interesting one about Newcastle United, club transfer record and Miguel Almiron.
Monday morning sees The Mail reporting that according to their information, Miguel Almiron is NOT Newcastle United’s record signing.
They report that so far Newcastle have only guaranteed £16m for the striker.
Which still falls below the £16.8m that was paid for Michael Owen back in August 2019.
By May though, all being well, Miguel Almiron will be Newcastle’s record signing, at least until the summer window…
Altogether Newcastle United will end up paying £21m for the 25 year old, once hitting certain targets.
The first target being NUFC staying in the Premier League, which if that is the case in May, will then trigger an additional payment to take the transfer fee over the £16.8m mark.
‘Miguel Almiron is not yet Newcastle United’s record signing and will only become so should they avoid relegation.
‘Sports Agenda understands that the Magpies have paid Atlanta United £16 million for Almiron with the widely quoted figure of £21m dependent on add-ons, such as the team’s Premier League survival this season.
‘That means the £16.8m paid to Real Madrid for Michael Owen in 2005 remains the club’s record transfer — for now, at least.’
