Newcastle 2 Burnley 0 – Match ratings of all NUFC players

We asked Jonathan Drape-Comyn to give us his match ratings after Tuesday night’s match.

Newcastle putting in a great shift to end Burnley’s undefeated run in the Premier League since Boxing Day.

A brilliant long range strike from Fabian Schar and a cool finish from the excellent Sean Longstaff.

Dubravka – 8: Another game in which he didn’t have a lot to do, which says a lot about how well the defence and centre midfield pair did again.

Made a good stop in the first half.

Manquillo – 8: I was a bit worried when i saw he was in instead of Yedlin but he was steady away and did his defensive duties very well.

A good display.

Schar – 9. What a hit!

Our game was a little flat up until that point and we were struggling to create chances but again, what a hit!

Great defensively too. Bloody good signing.

Lascelles – 9: A rock defensively, with Burnley’s big forwards not getting a look in.

Won every ball in the air.

Lejeune – 8: I thought Fernandez deserved a start tonight after so long out of the team but Lejeune was fantastic again.

All three centre halves have been in such good form you just can’t find an excuse to even give them a rest.

Ritchie – 8: Made that LWB spot his own and it was another solid performance from him.

No idea where he gets the energy from to keep up that level of performance every week.

Longstaff – 9:  Really happy for him to get his goal.

Was another exceptional performance in which he didn’t put a foot wrong.

Hayden – 9: Controlled the midfield with Longstaff and didn’t put a foot wrong.

Can’t speak higher of both Hayden and Longstaff.

What they have done since coming into the side is nothing short of remarkable.

Perez – 6:

I thought Perez and Almiron both had very quiet games in which their final ball, and first touch, was at times a let down in the end.

As usual a few good touches here and there but ultimately disappointing.

Almiron – 6: Likewise, a few good touches and looked lively with his pace but didn’t have the best game.

Sure some people may say ‘oh don’t be negative’ but it is just an honest observation.

Burnley nullified those two players well, there wasn’t a lot of chances in the game. We took our one chance (plus a screamer from Schar).

Rondon – 9: Big fan of Rondon with his hold up play exemplary again.

Comes deep, runs the line, is strong. He really does do it all for you.

Dummett – N/A: Not on long enough.

Diame – N/A: Not on long enough.

Joselu – N/A: Not on long enough.
