Mark Lawrenson predicts Newcastle v Burnley on Tuesday night
Mark Lawrenson has been having a look at Tuesday night’s match at St James Park.
Newcastle United taking on Burnley as both look to drag themselves a little further away from the relegation zone.
After the weekend results, Burnley are now 14th on 30 points, six ahead of third bottom Southampton.
Whilst Newcastle are 15th on 28 points, four points above the drop.
As Mark Lawrenson points out, both clubs are now ‘heading in the right direction’, although it is still tight down there.
Whilst Huddersfield (11 points) and Fulham (17 points) look doomed, only six points separate six team from Palace in 13th and Southampton in 18th.
Burnley haven’t lost since Boxing Day in the league, with five wins and three draws.
Whilst Rafa’s team have picked up 11 points in their last eight games, with three wins, two draws and defeats to only Chelsea, Man Utd and Spurs since Boxing Day.
With Newcastle’s recent win against second placed Man City and Burnley’s win over third placed Spurs on Saturday, it has helped reaffirm the idea of anybody beating anybody in the Premier League, on certain occasions.
Mark Lawrenson goes down the easy route and predicts no losers tomorrow night, predicting a 1-1 draw which he says wouldn’t be a ‘bad result for either side.’
However, with Cardiff home to Everton and Southampton hosting Fulham, there could well be two home wins there.
If so, a draw for Newcastle would leave them only two points off the relegation zone with a tricky away game at West Ham to follow.
I think Rafa Benitez will only have eyes for three points tomorrow, not one.
Mark Lawrenson talking to BBC Sport:
“Both of these teams had good wins over the weekend.
“Especially Burnley’s against Tottenham.
“And both of them seem to be heading in the right direction away from the relegation zone.
“A draw here would not be a bad result for either side and that is exactly what I think will happen.
“Prediction is Newcastle 1 Burnley 1.”
