Luis Garcia backs Ayoze Perez call-up for Spain

There is always a ‘healthy’ debate amongst Newcastle fans regarding Ayoze Perez.

As to whether he should be in Rafa Benitez’ starting eleven.

Those who question his lack of goals and assists, whilst others point to his overall game and hard work.

Saturday’s strike against Huddersfield made it four goals and one assist in the Premier League so far this season, not the greatest of bare stats for a striker who has played in 26 of Newcastle’s 27 matches.

Now that debate is set to go up a few notches, as Luis Garcia has been talking about Ayoze Perez and the Spanish national team.

Former Spanish international and Barcelona & Liverpool star Garcia, believes the Newcastle player ‘deserves a try because he has been amazing.’

Backing a call up for Spain, Luis Garcia states Ayoze Perez ‘delivers something special’ every time he gets on the pitch.

Luis Garcia speaking to Sky Sports:

“It’s a difficult one at the top because we [Spain] have been struggling having different strikers.

“With Rodrigo, Costa and Morata being the ones [getting the chance].

“But he [Ayoze Perez] is doing a great job.

“And he definitely deserves a try because he has been amazing.

“It is not easy on a team that has been on the rebuild and doesn’t have any help, with Rafa Benitez [not getting the backing from Mike Ashley to properly strengthen the squad].

“To be honest, every time he [Ayoze Perez] gets on the pitch, he delivers something special.

“He is a very technical player and he knows how to move.”
