Jack Colback has incredible 6 year Newcastle United contract – Report
There has been a bit of debate about Jack Colback recently.
The midfielder currently on loan at Nottingham Forest for the season.
Martin O’Neill took over at Forest halfway through this season and Colback’s loan spell and when asked this week about whether the midfielder is likely to be there next season, he replied: ‘I am not exactly sure, to the nth degree, what the agreement is with Newcastle. I have not got into the contractual details of his situation, but I will look at this situation in the near future.’
Jack Colback himself had commented earlier this season ‘Obviously the aim is to get Forest promoted. Then we will see. If the manager (Rafa Benitez) comes calling and wants to take me back there, we will cross that bridge when we come to it.’
When the player went on loan last summer, it was widely reported that this season was also the last of his Newcastle contract, the midfielder getting a ridiculously long five year deal back in 2014 when a ‘bargain’ free transfer from Sunderland.
However, now The Chronicle are saying that their information is that Jack Colback actually has a six year. even more ridiculous, contract with Newcastle, meaning he won’t be out of contract this summer. Their angle is that this could be a positive for Newcastle in terms of getting a transfer fee in the summer but with the wages he was given as a ‘free’ transfer back in 2014, it surely only means it would be impossible once again to sell Colback this summer as well, with no Championship club able to commit themselves longer-term to Colback’s NUFC level wages.
The Mag – 18 February 2019:
Martin O’Neill talking about Jack Colback to Nottinghamshire Live:
“In terms of long-term future, it is really early for me to be deciding these things.
“I am not exactly sure, to the nth degree, what the agreement is with Newcastle. I will certainly have a look at that.
“I think your opinion that he has been one of the better players this season is pretty well the same thought around the dressing room as well.
“I have not got into the contractual details of his situation, but I will look at this situation in the near future.
“I thought that if he was captain, he was less likely to get himself foolishly booked.
“It was a combination of reasons for that.”
12 November 2018 – Jack Colback asked whether he sees his long-term future at Nottingham Forest:
“It just depends. That is something that can quickly be taken out of your hands.
“It is one of those things, football can change quickly, we will see what happens.
“But my aim is to win promotion and yes, I would love to play here in the Premier League.
“I would be happy if it did turn out that way; if I did end up playing in the Premier League with Forest.
“My situation at Newcastle looks pretty bleak, with Rafa, that is one of those things.
“I am not too fussed about that, but it was disappointing with the way it ended, with Newcastle being my home town club. But that is football.
“Obviously the aim is to get Forest promoted. Then we will see.
“If the manager (Rafa Benitez) comes calling and wants to take me back there, we will cross that bridge when we come to it.
“But we are a long way off that just yet, we will keep calm for now.”
