Warning of Metro problems for Newcastle v Watford today
Metro services are set to be disrupted today for Newcastle v Watford.
Fans travelling to the match should allow for this when gauging what time to start their journey to St James Park.
Nexus have released the following information:
‘Newcastle United fans are advised that the Metro line between St James and Tynemouth will be closed this weekend due to modernisation work.
Any fans heading to the FA Cup game against Watford, kick off 3pm, and travelling in from North Tyneside should allow extra time to complete their journeys.
Extra replacement buses will be operating between Tynemouth and St James calling at or near the Metro stations on the affected section of line.
Anyone who has got a Magpie Mover pass can use it to travel on any local bus services.
Fans can also still travel into Newcastle on Metro from Tynemouth on the line yellow line via Four Lane Ends. Trains are likely to be busy, so allow extra time to get into town for the game.
A Nexus spokesman said:
“We’re sorry if anyone is inconvenienced by our planned modernisation works this weekend.
“We were obviously only aware this line closure clashed with a Newcastle United home game at short notice due to the fact it is an FA Cup tie.
“We try to avoid works clashing with home games but given the scale of the investment we are carrying out this is not always possible to do this.”
