The Premier League form table ahead of Newcastle United taking on Chelsea.
Sixth bottom Newcastle visit fourth top Chelsea and that is almost exactly replicated in the form table as well.
Over the course of these past six PL matches, the blues have the fourth best form and Newcastle the fifth worst.
Chelsea fans are moaning as usual but as well as being favourites to win the Europa League, one step from Wembley in the League Cup semi-final, and into the fourth round of the FA Cup, they are also on a run of 13 points from the last 18.
Over the course of the whole season, only leaders Liverpool (one) have lost less PL games than the blues (three).
Far from thinking about a victory, Newcastle fans would grab a point with both hands. Only one win and six points from the last eight Premier League matches and these last six games have seen only that 1-0 victory over Huddersfield plus draws against Watford and Fulham.
Newcastle are given some hope by the fact Chelsea have managed only seven goals in these last six Premier League matches, with the last two home games seeing them fail to score at all. Southampton getting a goalless draw and Leicester a 1-0 in.
Newcastle have only managed three goals in six PL games themselves and many neutrals will be seeing this as a potentially very low scoring game, no doubt Rafa Benitez massively focused on going for a clean sheet.
The direction of the match will almost certainly come down to whether Newcastle can keep the home side out for a decent period and whether Chelsea get frustrated? Whether that frustration could lead to Rafa’s team scoring on the break is another matter.
With no January signings, a weak squad and then now missing at least half a dozen first team squad players, naming his side today will have been an easy but painful one for Rafa Benitez.
The team will ave pretty much picked itself unless the manager springs a major surprise. Sadly, none of the options look great today for the NUFC boss but if his team keep their discipline and shape, Benitez will always hope they can get something.
