Newcastle United make loan approach for Martin Terrier – L’Equipe
Tuesday lunchtime brings reports from France that Newcastle United have made a move for Martin Terrier.
L’Equipe say that Rafa Benitez has been having the forward watched over a period of time and he is interested in buying the player.
However, the report says that it has been made clear to Newcastle that Lyon don’t want to sell the promising young player.
Which then led to the Magpies asking for a loan until the end of this season, though Lyon are yet to agree to this.
The 21 year old is a versatile attacking player who can play as a second striker or an attacking midfielder, as well as on the wing
The player was signed for around £9m as a 20 year old last January (2018) from Lille..
He has made 21 appearances for Lyon this season but that includes only four Ligue 1 starts, with Martin Terrier used 12 times off the bench in league matches.
Terrier has scored four goals in total this season, including two in the league, but hasn’t started a Ligue 1 game since starting in the 2-0 win over Nimes back in October.
A French Under 21 international, he was hampered by injuries throughout 2018 and ruled out in five different spells. Though he has been fit since October, only to be almost exclusively restricted to sub appearances, including one in the 2-2 home draw against Man City in the Champions League.
Lyon have no chance of winning the league as they are 16 points adrift of PSG, though it is tight otherwise at the top, with only four points separating second and fourth, Lyon sitting third.
The French club also have a massive Champions League tie coming up in February, as they take on Barcelona.
Newcastle United are desperate for more attacking options and only nine days until the window closes.
The idea of a new club record transfer for Miguel Almiron this month looks laughable now (if it was ever anything but laughable…)
