Newcastle United 19 goal striker Elias Sorensen scores on international debut – Watch it here
With 19 goals already, fair to say that Elias Sorensen is probably the most talked about, with the possible exception of Salomon Rondon, striker at Newcastle United this season.
A host of clubs are desperate to take the 19 year old on loan (see below) for the rest of the season, Blackpool the first to break cover and go public with their desire to bring in the young Dane.
On Tuesday night Callum Roberts came in and scored on his first start for the senior team, as Newcastle progressed to the fourth round of the FA Cup.
A lot of fans wondering why Elias Sorensen hadn’t at least been included in the squad for that game.
Well they had missed the fact that the young striker is currently away with his country having been called up for Denmark’s Under 21s for the first time.
On Wednesday he made his debut and on 48 minutes (three minutes after coming on following half-time) he made it a scoring debut against Mexico, grabbing the only goal (watch it below) of the game with yet another classy finish.
I have seen Elias Sorensen play a few times in the flesh as well as various video clips and I get the feeling that if he keeps his progress up, he will become known as one of those strikers referred to with the backhanded compliment of ‘all he does is score goals’.
All these things of course can and no doubt will be improved but his all round game isn’t always great, plus he can drift out of games, but then bang, he gets a chance and the ball is in the back of the net.
The great thing is that he looks to have the one ingredient that can’t really be taught, a natural finisher who repeatedly happens to be in the right place at the right time.
Here’s hoping he ends up at the right loan club and that very soon we are seeing him turn out in black and white for the first time.
In the meantime, here is his latest goal.

The Mag – Monday 14 January 2019:
Elias Sorensen recently agreed a new three and a half year contract with Newcastle United.
There were fears the club could lose him when he rejected the initial offer, only for the Danish striker to be convinced once NUFC came back with a more realistic offer of wages.
With 19 goals already this season below first team level, Newcastle fans have wondered whether he would be worth a try on the bench, at least in cup matches, with only Huddersfield having scored less than the Magpies’ paltry 16 PL goals.
However, any hopes of involvement at Blackburn tomorrow night are non-existent, with the forward reported to have joined up with the Danish Under 21s in Mexico.
At the same time, it is widely expected Elias Sorensen will be one of the young players to head out on loan this month.
The only question is, at which level/club.
Blackpool have become the first club to break cover and admit they would love to take Sorensen on loan until the end of the season.
They have had a number of Newcastle players previously on loan, including last season, Sean Longstaff scoring nine from midfield when there for the year.
After a surprise 1-0 win at leaders Portsmouth, Blackpool boss Terry McPhillips has been asked whether he wants to bring in Elias Sorensen:
“We are interested in him (Sorensen), yes, but so are a number of other clubs so we won’t get too excited about that unless it happens.”
