Newcastle 2 Manchester City 1 – Match ratings of all NUFC players and comments

Newcastle 2 Manchester City 1  – Tuesday 29 January 8pm

We asked Jonathan Drape-Comyn to give us his match ratings after Tuesday night’s match.

A quite remarkable night seeing Newcastle a goal down after 24 seconds before then pulling it back with two goals in the second half.

After banning himself from St James Park because of Mike Ashley and only going to away games (including Spurs on Saturday), Jonathan asked us to point out these ratings/comments are given from watching in the pub, where drink was taken…

Dubravka 8 – I honestly don’t remember him making a save with the exception of a David Silva shot in the second half.

Was a bit all over the place for the opening goal though. A calm pair of hands after that.

Yedlin 7 – Struggled in the first half and didn’t get forward much in a flat back five. Battled away throughout and in the end did a decent job in nullifying Sane.

Lascelles 9 – All three of the centre-halves were fantastic.

Lejeune 9 – Has looked brilliant since coming back from injury and was brilliat again last night.

Schar 10 – Slowly becoming my player of the season so far. A great signing.

Ritchie 10 – I have no idea how he keeps doing it. The guy must be running on Duracell+.

Stepped up to take the penalty. Always there when you need him.

Hayden 10 – All over the pitch again tonight.

He was the one Newcastle player really putting City under pressure when they had possession and he was calm/controlled while on the ball too.

Longstaff 9 – The biggest compliment I could pay him is that I didn’t really see much of him.

In a midfield that included De Bruyne, Silva and Fernandinho… Longstaff just looked like any other Premier League player.

If a fan from another team had watched that game, I bet they would have never assumed that was only his third or fourth PL appearance. When Jonjo Shelvey, Ki and Diame do come back, they will be behind Longstaff in the pecking order.

Perez 9 – Ran his socks off and did well when he got up the pitch.

I imagine his position may be under threat in the coming weeks IF Almiron does come in, so we may see him go up an extra gear like we did last night.

Atsu 7 – I thought he had a quiet game but was well disciplined and did his job very well.

Ran his socks off down the left hand side.

Rondon 10 – An absolute powerhouse.

If the club really did want Rafa to stay, a real statement would be snapping this guy up on a permanent transfer sooner rather than later.

Bullied Stones and Laporte. A great goal as well which he won’t get enough credit for!

Kenedy N/A – Not on long enough.

Manquillo N/A – Not on long enough.
