Michael Owen points out shocking Newcastle United statistic and predicts dismal afternoon at St James Park
Michael Owen has been speaking ahead of the match at St James Park on Saturday.
Only three Premier League clubs have scored less than 20 goals this season and two of them meet on Tyneside tomorrow.
As well as Huddersfield with 13, you have Newcastle on only 16 and 19 for Cardiff.
The Welsh club have acted today and brought in two new strikers, Rafa Benitez on the other hand is still waiting for any kind of helping hand in January.
When it comes to other negative stats, there is more fierce competition between the two clubs.
Michael Owen points out that Cardiff have failed to score in more games (10) than any other PL team this season.
Only for Newcastle to trounce that with most home defeats (eight) in all four divisions.
Rafa’s players only avoiding defeat at SJP when beating Bournemouth and Watford, plus the draw against Fulham.
As for recent form, Newcastle have one win in their last nine PL games and Cardiff have one win in their last seven matches (all competitions).
You have to think it won’t take an awful lot to win this one…
However, this game looks massive when it comes to helping decide the relegation race, as one of the clubs is all but certain to be in the relegation zone after Saturday.
Michael Owen thinks it will be Newcastle as he forecasts a goalless draw, with his other tip being for there to be less than two goals in the whole match.
Little wonder Rafa Benitez wrapped Salomon Rondon up in cotton wool on Tuesday night. These last 11 Premier League matches have seen, apart from him, the only Newcastle players to score being Ciaran Clark (2) and Ayoze Perez.
In total only nine goals scored in the last eleven PL matches (two in the last five), with Rondon getting five and a Mee own goal at Burnley.
Quite unbelievable that Rafa Benitez wasn’t allowed to bring in one or two people who can score goals, at the very start of this January transfer window.
Another war of attrition looks to be on the cards tomorrow and whilst Newcastle fans will hope for better football, if Rafa’s team win they will not care how it came about on this occasion.
Michael Owen talking to BetVictor:
“No team has lost more home league games (8) than Newcastle United in the four divisions of English football.
“They continue to struggle in front of goal having scored just five times in their last nine PL games.
“Cardiff have failed to score in more games than any other team in the division this season (10).
“Those statistics would suggest we are likely to see a tight, tense affair at St James’s Park with opportunities at a premium.
“Tips:
“Under 1.5 goals 2/1
“Newcastle 0 Cardiff 0 7/1.”
