In amongst all the propaganda, fake news and general end of the world meltdown following the Rio Ferdinand comments before the Chelsea match on Saturday night, there is surely only one statistic that needs to keep being pushed to show the real problem and culprit.

It has been mentioned a few times and was mentioned at the very end of the programme by Jake Humphrey.

It can’t be argued with, unlike all the profit/loss/investment figures (even though we know what the real score is with them..) and should be the new focus in this end game of sh… we’re dealing with.

However, being 48 years old and technically incompetent, I’ll leave it up to someone else to drive forward a ‘hashtag’ on Twitter. Whatever that means..

The statistic is that Newcastle United had only been relegated four times between 1892 and Ashley taking over in 2007, four times.

If this season continues in its current vein (and we all obviously hope it won’t), it will be three relegations in the past 11 years (nine Premier League seasons) under Mike Ashley. Three times in 11 years! Three!!!

In that time we have had many different players with high level achievements to their name. Men who have won the Golden Boot (Owen), played in Euro Finals (Sissoko) and Champions League finals (Wijnaldum).

We have had different managers with different achievements to their credit. Men who have won the Champions League and foreign titles (Benitez), been national managers and won domestic cups (McClaren), overachieved in the Premier League with no resources ( Kinnear…Lord help us …and Hughton..) and local legends (Shearer). Yet they’ve all failed.

However, we have only had one owner.

If there is only one statistic that should be used to illustrate the criminal incompetence of the Ashley regime it is this. Three relegations, only one owner.

If those football men with great achievements and experience to their name can’t make the Ashley ‘business model’ (ahem).. work, then it illustrates something we’ve all known since at least 2013. It is not fit for purpose. Whatever Rio bloody Ferdinand thinks.

So go ahead all you techno savvy fans, or people who just want to slag off Rio Ferdinand, Dennis Wise, Tim bloody Sherwood etc.

Get a hashtag going because I can’t: 3 relegations, only 1 owner! I won’t claim copyright…

So far its 2 relagations, only 1 owner. The headline should be, 2 instant promotions in a difficult championship, only 1 owner, how does he get it right?.

    • pedrodelgardo

17th place on the minimum spend is the target, if that’s what you want you are welcpme to it. I won’t be contributing again until we have proper ambition to improve as a football club, no renrwal for me. Fatty can wheel out his PR goons all he likes – they have no connection to our club – it isn’t going to work and you will find that out when Rafa is forced out.
      17th place as a target!

    • Cockneytrev

How much is Ashley paying you?
      You Hoop licker,,👅👅

    • porciestreet

Ashley did NOT get us promoted tou tool. We had two extremely good managers do the job for him.
One, he sacked for absolutely no good reason, to give his lunatic buddy a job, and Rafa, bless him, was not sought out by Cashley, he actually vollunteered his services, did the job, and is treat with so much disdain by this reprehensible tw4t.
There is no possibe or available fact in this whole sorry saga that can put this lying theif in any sort of good light.
Shame on you for your rediculous statement.

      HWTL.

      • Billmag

        Good post.

      • Derek

If you volunteer your services, you don’t get a £6 mill a year contract

    • JEz_Brizzle

Your stat shows one thing… owner having a decent manager and good CHAMPIONSHIP players – then not doing things right to remain in the Premiership.
I guess you think everything is rosy and cosy at St James’ – if you can’t see that even a very well respected title winning manager is struggling to maintain motivation within the current regime, then I’d just stick to the vodka – cos it’ll all look so much better, don’t worry about the liver disease cos everything will be rosy on the outside

    • Billmag

Finished 5th in the Premier buy one player (Anita) and nearly get relegated how does he get it oh so wrong.

    • pedrodelgardo

When you’re not here do you spend your time poking a dog with a stick?

      • East Durham Mag

        Not with a stick 🤣

    • Ram Kishore

Are u trying to wind up people on here?

For me, this comment sounds like one.

A honest and genuine doubt Vodka.

      • Toon Arnie

I don’t think he is Ram – I think he’s genuinely so gullible that he is still one of the minority fooled by Ashley.

    • Toon Arnie

You have to get it wrong in the first place to be in the Championship ! One of your worst posts ever – even by your standards that was a shocker.

  • Vodkamagpie

True or false, rafa has bought players for around 110mil, in the same time, bournemouth have bought players for around 140mil, crystal palace 150mil, Burnley 100mil, Brighton 140mil

    • Paul Patterson

It’s true. But it’s flawed. How about net spend? How long a period? For what purpose?

      • Vodkamagpie

Does net spent truly mean anything?, rafa has spent money on players, which is on par with most teams, that’s a fact, and the point. It shouldn’t matter that we sold sold sissoko for 30mil, that shouldn’t be a negative, more a positive

        • Toon Arnie

Of course it does you spanner. Do you understand anything ?

          • Vodkamagpie

Net spent is irrelevant. With our previous scouting system we were able to identify young international talent.

          • Toon Arnie

Again that’s rubbish. One of the reasons the tv money is given to clubs is to help with net spend. We shouldn’t have to sell to buy. He won’t spend on players, the academy, the ground – where is the money going ? Our wage bill is 4th lowest in the premier and we have a net profit on transfers – we should have a fortune in the bank or Ashley’s loan should be paid off. Why won’t you ever discuss that ?

          • Vodkamagpie

What is there to discuss?. We don’t know the details of the club’s finances, we dont know what the money is used for, we dont know how much money the club has, no one knows. As I said before, one of the facts we do know, rafa has bought players for around 110mil, which is more or less on par with most teams. Just think about that fact for a moment….. . The problem now is
            1. Squad is full, can’t get rid of deadwood
            2. Bentiez has not signed a new contract
            3. Ashley is trying to sell the club
            4. Squad as it stands should be mid table, and is not, is buying players going to fix the problem, not guaranteed

          • Toon Arnie

Rafa has spent £6m in almost 3 years. Don’t twist the figures. Nothing like on a par with other teams. This team hasn’t strengthened at all since last season, others have, so we have no right to be mid table.
Benitez would be stupid to sign a new contract after either being lied to or ignored continuously.
If Ashley was serious about selling the club he would do it in June so the threat of relegation, brought on by lack of investment, wouldn’t be a blocker for buyers if they actually exist.
You’ve unintentionally highlighted the root cause of the cancer at this club – Ashley refuses to communicate and nobody knows where the money has gone.

          • Vodkamagpie

Yes, rafa has spent 110mil, and the squad has been strengthened. If you add up minutes played this season from the new additions to the squad, to that of the departed players, it would be a huge difference. Let’s just agree to disagree, you have your views, I have mine .

    • Toon Arnie

      False. Next question.

  • Paul Patterson

    #3relegations1owner

  • Sickandtired

Cheer up. If we listen to Ferdinand, then one day we might be like Bournemouth.

    • Jonas

yes i wonder if he’d suggest the same advice for Leeds or Villa were they to ever get in the PL again or a disgruntled Everton or Spurs fan now.

” you shoul aim to be as good as a far smaller club than yourselves”
or does it just apply to us for some or no reason?

  • Themoscow72

Without Ashely time spent outside the top division 25% with Ashley time spent out side top division 16%. Wonder which is the better record. Can you work it out. I can.
To the morons on Saturday who sang we are having a party when Ashley dies I hope when the time comes who enjoy your parents funerals as much.

    • Geordiegiants

I will enjoy his funeral like a party for winning the league. I hope it’s slow and painful and his whole family feel the pain, just like my Geordie family feel from the years of pain he has inflicted on us.

    • cmrowley

I can use the same data and paint a different picture, you are using years, I’ll use games.

If you take a look at the average % of games played in the top flight v out the top flight, before and after the parasite, the records are really very similar,

Before the parasite, 23% out of top flight
After parasite, 21% out of the top flight

If you look at the percentages in conjunction with the post (i.e. likely 3 relegation’s in 11 years opposed to 4 in 115 years) it is an accurate damnation of the parasites time in charge.

      • Themoscow72

Do not agree with you as its seasons that count not games.
Asley saved the club dot com.

        • Toon Arnie

Saved the club from what exactly ?

        • cmrowley

Disagree all you like! Stats is stats.

    • Jonas

pre Ashley – a bad season was finishing 13th and getting to the cup final
pre Ashley – PL relegation battles 0
pre Ashley – NUFC was a football club, winning and losing mattered

    • Toon Arnie

You really have to practice to be this stupid. Can you not just put the team ahead of Ashley for once Super Fraud.

  • East Durham Mag

Looking like 3 relegations under one owner yet there is an element of people who support the bigfathorriblecunt, the utter stupidity of some is beyond belief.

  • Weyhhadaway

The headline says follow Ferdinand remarks, I say don’t follow this money grabbing jerk. it is click bait of the highest order and should be ignored, allowing it to be consigned to the dustbin of twitter with all of the other rubbish that only gets a few clicks. The more you react, the longer the story stays in the public eye.

  • Jonas

Or the fact that there was nothing between us and Spurs when he bought us, if anything we’d had the lions share of the PL era (finishing above, bigger gates).
They didn’t get financial doping like Man City and Chelsea but look at the difference now.

Of course, this may be precisely what Ashley wanted all along.
