Crewe officially confirm Newcastle United defender has joined on loan
After spending half a season there in 2017/18, Jamie Sterry has now joined Crewe Aleandra on loan once more.
The Newcastle defender wasn’t included in Rafa Benitez’ squad that lost to Watford in the FA Cup .
Instead he completed his mood to Crewe on Saturday.
Jamie Sterry made nine starts for Crewe last season and joins the League Two club who are currently in 11th place in the table.
The 23 year old clearly has no first team future with Newcastle, so hopefully he can get permanently fixed up elsewhere.
Crewe Alexandra official announcement:
‘Crewe Alexandra are delighted to announce the signing of Newcastle United full-back Jamie Sterry on loan until the end of the season.
The 23-year-old returns to Gresty Road after enjoying a successful loan spell for the second half of last season.
Sterry made nine appearances in a Crewe shirt & impressed as the Club ended the season third in the Sky Bet League Two form table.
Mainly playing Under 23 football for the Magpies this season, he has made three starts for Rafael Benitez’s first team too, playing 90 minutes on all three occasions inclusive of the EFL Cup defeat to Nottingham Forest in August & the FA Cup third round, & replay, with Blackburn Rovers earlier this month.
Also making 20 appearances for Coventry City in 2016/17, he now has a wealth of senior experience & is set to assist the Alex in ending the season strongly once again.
Sterry hasn’t signed in time to make his debut against Colchester United, but he will link up with his team mates for training at Reaseheath on Monday & will be available for selection against Carlisle United.’
