Blackburn 2 Newcastle 4 – Match ratings of all NUFC players
Blackburn 2 Newcastle 4 (AET) – Tuesday 15 January 7.45pm
We asked Jonathan Drape-Comyn to give us his match ratings after tonight’s match.
Newcastle going two up but then somehow ending up 2-2 at half-time.
Only to see the second half out despite a number of injuries, before finishing it off in extra time.
Woodman 6 – I actually thought he should have done better for the second goal.
Didn’t exactly fill me with confidence all night. Still looks very small and timid when asked to deal with any high balls into the box.
Sterry 6 – Another youngster who I thought struggled to have any sort of positive impact on the game.
I feel harsh saying this, but I think Sterry is 23 and doesn’t look up to the standard, stuck to his task all night though.
Fernandez 7 – One of four players in which I think if you took them out of the first team we would struggle (I know we already are).
The other three being Schar, Dubravka and Rondon. Was brilliant again tonight.
Clark 7 – Did well in the first half. I didn’t even realise he was injured until the sub was made in the second half.
Can you imagine if we only had two or three centre halves in the squad like in previous campaigns?
Manquillo 7 – One of his better games for the Toon.
Did well defensively and was good on the ball. Might be needed this weekend at this rate.
Schar 8 – Probably our best player on the night, along with Longstaff.
Looked good in the middle of midfield but will hopefully be at centre back alongside Fernandez this weekend.
Longstaff 8 – Another solid performance.
Probably even better than his performance against Chelsea, with him having a far greater impact on the game. Pleased to see him get his first goal for the club.
Ritchie 7 – No idea how he does it!
If he looks shattered at the weekend, then I think I will cut him some slack. Mr dependable.
Integral to the team at the best of times but especially on nights like this.
Roberts 6 – Again, like Longstaff, pleased to see him get his first goal for the club.
Aside from what looked like a very good finish, I can’t remember him touching the ball.
Murphy 5 – May seem harsh considering the scoreline but his final ball is consistently poor.
Haven’t been able to decide for a while if his poor showing was down to a lack of quality of lack of confidence… I think it might be both.
Joselu 5 – Scored a goal but was woeful once again.
Lascelles – N/A (not on long enough). Madness that he didn’t come off straight away.
Rafa should have been all over that one. Will he be fit for Saturday? As long as Schar and Fernandez are fit then I wont be too worried for this weekend.
Hayden 6 – Did okay when he came on, fairly nondescript!
Another player who is now an integral member of the squad when he really shouldn’t be.
Perez 7 – Took advantage of a tiring Blackburn team when he came on and scored a great goal.
Still got no time for him so long as he carries on with that celebration. Could sell him tomorrow and I wouldn’t care less.
Atsu – N/A (not on long enough)
Fans 10/10 – My last trip to Ewood was a League Cup game on a Wednesday night that finished 4-3.
I think we had the whole end that night. The fact that around 2,000 made the trip tonight from all corners of the country goes to show what a credit they are to the club.
No football team deserves success, and nobody has the right to win anything… but that doesn’t mean we stop hoping.
Feels like I gave very high ratings for a side that struggled to beat Blackburn but that is the standard of the team we put out tonight.
