Andy Cole spells it out for Mike Ashley
Andy Cole has been commenting on Newcastle United’s situation with 15 games remaining.
Rafa Benitez desperate to add better quality players for this relegation battle but with only 76 hours of the transfer window remaining, Mike Ashley continues to block any signings coming in.
Andy Cole declaring ‘Unless someone comes in and buys Newcastle off Mike Ashley, that club is going to sink very, very quickly.’
It is very difficult to disagree with that assessment, as the lack of investment in transfer window after transfer window is really catching up with the squad.
How Rafa Benitez would love to be given the backing to try and find another Andy Cole but that is pie in the sky.
The Newcastle manager has been desperate to buy a left-back to compete with Paul Dummett for these past four transfer windows and still no sign of one arriving, even on loan.
The Italian media claiming Mike Ashley wouldn’t even agree to pay the full Jordan Lukaku wages, leading to that loan move failing.
Rafa has already said Dummett will be missing once again against Man City, not having played since Man Utd on 2 January.
It really sums it up, a refusal to back the manager with a half decent left-back and instead this entire month/transfer window, Benitez hasn’t had an out and out left-back available.
Andy Cole stating ‘Newcastle have got to get their mojo back’, I’m not sure if we have ever had any ‘mojo’ during Mike Ashley’s 12 year reign.
Andy Cole speaking to the BBC:
“I think crazy is an understatement (when looking at Newcastle United’s situation),
“It (Newcastle United) is going nowhere fast.
“For me it seems like it’s a sinking ship.
“Unless someone comes in and buys Newcastle off Mike Ashley, that club is going to sink very, very quickly.
“How many times have you heard in football that you are too good to go down?
“Anything is possible.
“They need to get results, they need to play better than they have done (in the FA Cup defeat to Watford].
“Newcastle have got to get their mojo back.”
