94% of Newcastle United fans think Mike Ashley won’t allow any players to be bought in January transfer window

The question we asked Newcastle supporters on Thursday was ‘Will Mike Ashley allow Newcastle United to sign anybody in January transfer window?’

Whilst other clubs involved in the relegation fight have already made moves to strengthen their team/squad, Newcastle are yet again sitting watching on from the sidelines.

We have now moved into the 25 th day of the January transfer window and it is only six days until the window slams shut.

So what do Newcastle fans think will happen, if anything, in this next week?

Will the much talked about Miguel Almiron become a new club record transfer signing, indeed will he be one of a number of high profile players bought in at this late stage?

Mike Ashley belatedly realising how ridiculous his ‘strategy’ is of denying Rafa Benitez any funds to buy players?

We gave a number of options and asked supporters to pick the one that matches most closely what they think will have happened at Newcastle United by the end of this month.

The poll results:

2% Newcastle will buy at least 2 players and potentially get loan players as well

4% Newcastle will buy at least 1 player and potentially get loan players as well

23% Newcastle will buy 0 players but get at least 2 loan players

40% Newcastle will buy 0 players but get at least 1 loan player

31% Newcastle will buy 0 players and get 0 loan players

With reports emerging later on yesterday that Jordan Lukaku is set to come on loan, that boosted the belief for some that at least one or more loan signings will arrive.

However, only 6% of Newcastle fans who took part in the poll, believe even one player will be bought in January, only 2% thinking more than one.

It is quite staggering really, but at the same time no surprise whatsoever. Newcastle United in such a tough place with another desperate relegation fight due to lack of investment in the squad, yet fans just expect nothing from Mike Ashley in terms of changing his behaviour.

Rafa Benitez has said all along that he would wait and see what happened in this 2019 January transfer window, before making his mind up on whether to sign an extension.

This fan vote on expected (or not expected) signings surely also indicates that there is almost no belief that Rafa Benitez will stay on as manager, unless Mike Ashley decides to properly put the club up for sale at a market price.
