West Ham fans comments before and after winning at Newcastle United – Interesting

West Ham fans aren’t used to seeing their team win too often at St James Park.

Only one victory for the Hammers at Newcastle since 1998.

The West Ham fans pressured the owners last season and they responded with a new manager and £100m spent in the summer.

After initial optimism they no longer sounded like Happy Hammers ahead of their trip to Tyneside.

Amazing what a win can do though…

West Ham fans comments pre and post-match via their top ‘Knees Up Mother Brown’ message board:

PRE-MATCH

‘Damn nuisance that NUFC have hit form but to win 4 in a row would be as rare as a trophy for them.’

‘They look on us as their soft touch every time they they play us ask any barcode.

Getting rolled over up there has got to by law of averages end some time I hope it starts in this next game and we turn up ready to battle, we need a good result against fellow strugglers for a change.’

‘You aren’t wrong mate, I have lived up here over 22 years and I can’t recall too many victories. The last one I remember was Nolan getting the winner a few seasons back which obviously upset the locals much to my delight!

3 Wins on the trot has taken them from the doom and gloom of relegation certainties in their eyes back to King Rafa’s Black and White Army.

I have managed to get a couple of tickets up in the away end and I am looking forward to a couple of pre match beers in a great football city followed by hopefully a decent Hammers performance and an Andy Carroll winner off the bench, now wouldn’t that be nice!’

‘I can’t see any chance of a clean sheet. How many are we capable of putting away? A 2-1 loss, I reckon.’

‘Will we actually turn up? Still far too many minutes across this season of utter indifference. I predict an absent/indifferent first half. A better second half.’

‘Yeah, soft underbelly, benevolent West Ham who would prefer not to be there will gift them 3 points just as we always do.’

‘We really are a poor team.

Yes 100m went in but that was years after not spending anything and making a profit on one window so not that much really.

A draw would be a good point for us up there but will see us drop further down the table.we need some wins asap.’

‘I am not getting the view that we have shown other than when we played a depleted Everton side anything on our travels to suggest that we should expect a result at Newcastle?

Huddersfield should have beaten us comfortably on our last away outing so I struggle to see where the optimism is coming from to turn over a team that has just won 3 on the spin?

Based on what I saw last night and what I have seen of us and Newcastle this season, is that we will struggle to score but will concede so a 1-0 defeat surely is the most likely outcome?’

‘How depressing that almost every post I’m reading is dreading the prospect of Newcastle away?

I thought that having MP at the helm was meant to change this fear of rubbish teams.

Newcastle are absolutely awful. In my heart i’m seeing a 0-2 win… but unfortunately like most others, we tend to know how this plays out.’

‘We probably won’t keep a clean sheet yet again, so it’s a question of whether we can score a goal or two to even get a draw.

Lot depends on Arnie’s fitness, which began to worry me even before he limped off on Saturday.’

‘Some thought this would be a walk over! LOL! We will have few of those currently!

Strikers looked hot the other night (at Burnley) for Newcastle.’

POST-MATCH:

‘Must have been a Geordie doing the editing on MOTD, didn’t reflect the game I saw at all.

They had plenty of shots but none that particularly troubled Fabianski, we had plenty of more clear cut chances that in truth should have been taken.

Great trip though, long drive back always better after a performance like that.’

‘It’s as if they wanted to over emphasise the point of how well Benitez is doing on such a low budget from Ashley. And predictably mentioned it at the end.’

‘Didn’t even show Arnie running around the keeper did they? Yet they showed a hopeful ball to Rondon that he couldn’t reach and it went out of play. What bias…’

‘Great win – we certainly could have scored more. Was also an entertaining match to watch.

We may not be able to contend with Man City or Liverpool but against everyone else you can see how Pellegrini has affected the team play so far.

Our attacking and defensive heading continues to be shocking though. Newcastle had two corners which ended up with free headers in the box, many defensive clearances just put back into the middle of the pitch, and we can’t keep possession off a goal kick without Carroll.’

‘West Ham were terrific today. I fancied us all week having watched Newcastle on Monday.

We are better then the bottom half.’

‘Not at our best today, not by a long chalk. The opening 20 minutes saw oodles of passes slightly off causing us to surrender possession cheaply.

In truth this game was way too open and we should have beaten them something like 7-5, they had loads of chances/ half chances as did we but Hernandez for his brace, and Anderson for his goal apart, the finishing today was poor.’

‘Other than one close range header in the 1st half I really cant recall any time where I thought Newcastle looked like even getting close to a goal.

Normally when West Ham are winning I clock watch thinking “Just another few minutes please”, this time I kept thinking I fancy us for a 3rd or 4th here.’

‘Another was a whisker away from Rondon getting a touch on it…Perez if he had his shooting boots on does better and Atsu got a hold of that one and when the replay came on it was a touch away from deflecting off I think it was Zaba….

Once Ritchie went off their crosses weren’t as often or accurate.

Not saying that we looked like losing but they were close at times, a hair away from the offside which Rondon smacked against the post.’

‘Thought we were bloomin superb today, with better finishing we could have had 6 or 7. Big shout out for Diop – brilliant performance.’

‘MOTM Hernandez for me. Anderson was class and Diop, Balbuena and Snodinho all very good. Going for Hernandez for his 2 goals and constant movement in the box. Newcastle didn’t know what to do with him.’

‘Did I just hear that right, Matt Le Big Nose just said that West Ham only had a few chances and Newcastle had plenty and should not have lost that game.’

‘What an idiot. The chances we had were so clear cut that we could’ve had more. Quality of chances over quantity of chances, and the players available to finish them. It’s why we lost 4-0 last week despite having the same number of chances as Man City.

Ayoze scuffing the ball 20ft wide from the edge of the box a few times for example is not the same as having a clear cut chance for Hernandez to put away. This is why the stats people are so big on Expg’s now.’

‘Diop was a monster and had Rondon in his pocket but the whole defence was very good today and despite giving me kittens at 1 – 0 with all the glorious wasted opportunities we ended up being very clinical in the final 15 minutes.’

‘Le Tissier is kinda right I think, we didn’t have that many shots, we had MANY dangerous moments and quite a few broke down because of a misspass or Hernandez/Arnie not trapping the ball.

We had many dangerous moments but only 7 real shots according to the stats.

So I think it’s just what you interpret as a chance, he might see it as only shots on target, it’s subjective I guess. I saw us ****ting all over these personally but the stats said that they had over double the shots.

Our chances were actual chances too. Really dangerous clear cut ones.’

‘But surely you cant agree that Newcastle did enough to “Not lose that game”

Personally I thought they created very little and never looked like scoring, whereas throughout the game we looked dangerous and were going to score every time we got near their box.’

‘I certainly don’t think we should get too carried away. If that had been a Bournemouth we played today, it would have been a 3-3 match or thereabouts. Thankfully it was Newcastle we played.’

‘Christ we don’t have a lot to cheer about these days, but a 3-0 away win to a team on form and at a place we have been shocking over the years is enough for me at least to be very very very happy tonight.

If fans cant be buzzing tonight then what is the point in being a West Ham fan at all.’

‘One of the best attacking performances by West Ham in the last decade. Absolutely ripped Newcastle to shreds, and could easily have been 6 or 7-0 if the finishing had been better. This is what happens when you field a team with quality in it from 1 through to 11.’

‘Brilliant result. So many on here writing us of and we turn in a 3-0 win.

Anderson was brilliant, Hernandez did what he does and proves exactly why he has a huge part to play for us under Pellegrini styles. Our front 3 I thought were fantastic, some great link up and with more games we’ll see more goals. They have great understanding and was a joy to watch.’

‘In it’s own way, it was a bit like last week – the team with the better finishers takes the chances the other team doesn’t. Played “good/bad” is so often dictated by whether the team has taken its chances or not.’

‘That was my thought too. If they’d had a halfway decent striker and Arnie (amongst others) had been a bit more clinical, the game could have ended about 8-all.

Good away performance and the only bum note was Cresswell getting injured after his best showing for quite some time. Hopefully, he’ll be fine for the next game.’

‘Thought the other week after the Toon won, Shearer was waxing lyrical how Rondon was mustard and he’d carry them on to greater heights. You’d have thought Rondon would be up for this years Ballon d’Or the way he was salivating over him.’

The Toon were dreadful – we were streets ahead of them all over the pitch and 0-3 wasn’t flattering in the slightest.

The gaffer clearly got it right today, so top marks.’

‘I rate Rafa, but he has turned Newcastle into such a negative team.. Would much rather watch Pelligrini-ball than that!’

‘3-0 flattered Newcastle, I am loving the football from Pelle boy.

Worried about losing Arnie?

I’m more worried how we are going to hang on to Pellegrini, man’s a top top manager and a gentlemen.’

‘That for me was about a good as an away performance you are likely to see. 10 out of 10.

3-0 and could and should have been so much more. Defence was outstanding even though Newcastle never really created much, we never let them.’

‘As the commentator said, there has been a gulf in class. We had the cutting edge today even if Newcastle attempted more shots.’

‘First half was pretty good, even stevens but a lovely goal… second half, complete command from us, should have had a couple more, all in all top notch given our record up there.’

‘I feel slightly sympathetic with the toon fans. The game their side have played today feels awfully familiar.’
