Watford 1 Newcastle 1 – Match ratings of all NUFC players

Watford 1 Newcastle 1  – Saturday 29 December 3pm

We asked Jonathan Drape-Comyn to give us his match ratings after Saturday afternoon’s match.

Newcastle drawing 1-1 after leading for most of the match.

The club now 15th in the table with 18 points after only one win in seven December matches.

Dubravka 9 – A few good saves, including a big one in the first half.

If there is a competition for the signing of 2018 I’m sure the media will claim Van Dijk to be the winner but for me it is this guy. £4 million.

Couldn’t do anything about the goal. If this season goes the way I think it will, then it won’t be his fault neither.

Yedlin 7 – Typical DeAndre Yedlin really.

Looked like our most potent threat going forward but suspect at times defensively. I don’t mind though as long as he continues to be as much of a threat going forward.

Fernandez 8 – Another strong performance.

I thought both centre halves did well but Fernandez just oozes class at times.

He came off at HT through injury and Schar was under the cosh for most of the second half but we defended well, and in truth, the centre halves looked comfortable in dealing with Watford attacks for the most part.

Lascelles 7 – A better performance compared to the ones we have seen from him as of late. Hopefully he will sustain that going into the new year.

Dummett 8 – Again, like Yedlin, it was as you’d expect from either full back.

Dummett was brilliant defensively but didn’t contribute enough going forward (for me). Not that he needs to so much, away from home anyway.

A left back will be high on the list in Jan, but I suspect it will be as cover, as Dummett has done well again this season.

Hayden 7 – I’ll admit to not being too happy to seeing him in the starting line up again but I though he had a good game.

His energy was key in a more positive first 45 from United.

Diame 7 – Along with Hayden, he didn’t have a bad game either. Both broke up the play well but in the second half they were too deep.

The two centre midfielders were playing on top of Schar and Lascelles at times.

Atsu 8 – One of the best games I have seen him play for Newcastle.

Was a constant threat, especially in the first half. Played a key part in the goal.

Perez – 6 – Meandered through the game and did very little.

To be fair to him, he was on the end of a few mean Watford tackles but as per, spent more time on the floor, rolling around, complaining to the referee, than actually contributing.

Ritchie 8 – Pretty much what we have come to expect from him.

Industrious is probably a condescending way to describe him but he really does work his socks off. Provided a top assist for the goal.

Rondon 9.5 – I was wanting to give him a 10 but I just refrained. Another ultimate centre forward performance.

Exactly what we want to see from our no.9. Bullied the Watford defenders and led the line brilliantly.

A bullet header for his goal. In most instances, your team is only as good as your centre forward. I think we have a good one here (at least until the end of the season).

Schar 7 – Did well in the second half. It’s nice to have a solid replacement when a centre half comes down with injury. There’s two more as well in Clark and Lejeune!!

Shelvey N/A (Not on long enough to judge) Looked at fault to me for their goal. Didn’t track his man. Not good enough.
