Updated Premier League relegation odds sums up how tight it is between Newcastle United and six others

The bookies have now revised their Premier League relegation odds after the weekend’s matches.

It is looking ever more too close to call.

The Premier League table now shows (see below) seven clubs divided by only five points at the bottom and with the next five matches separated by only 18 days, it is a key period.

After Newcastle United finished 10th last May, the bookies made the Magpies a very safe bet to avoid relegation worries, pricing them at 6/1 to go down this season.

After a shocking transfer window where Mike Ashley insisted on a ¬£20m+ profit on deals, rather than a major net investment in the squad, the bookies shortened Newcastle’s relegation odds down to 9/2.

However, now Newcastle are only 11/4 to be relegated and these next two games look key when you look at the table.

How the Premier League table currently looks:

Huddersfield and Fulham are the odds on favourites along with Burnley to go down, six points for NUFC before Christmas would be massive, taking Newcastle to 19 points from the first 18 games.

However, both Huddersfield and Fulham will also be looking at the games against Newcastle as huge opportunities.

The bottom line is that if Huddersfield win on Saturday they will go level with Newcastle, that is how tight it is.

Rafa’s team have given a helping hand to struggling clubs recently, West Ham had one win since September but once they played Newcastle, they are now on a run of three wins in a row, have gone from being below NUFC up to 11th and Manuel Pellegrino is even talking about the top six!

As for Wolves, only one point from six games and then they beat Chelsea and Newcastle, ending up now in the top half!

It just shows what two or three wins can do and Newcastle have it in their power to put clear daylight between themselves and the drop zone if winning the next two matches, four points would be steady, but anything less and I think we are really up against it, especially with the horror show of fixtures kicking off with Liverpool away on Boxing Day – playing five of the ‘big six’ within seven matches.

Premier League relegation odds:

8/15 Huddersfield

4/5 Cardiff

5/2 Southampton

11/4 Newcastle United

6/1 Palace
