This is how much Newcastle United have been paid to move FA Cup third round match

Confusion reigned on Friday when Newcastle United announced that their FA Cup third round match was definitely going ahead on the  original date and time of Saturday 5 January at 3pm.

Only to then release a statement later in the day saying that actually it had now been moved, with a 5.30pm kick-off, though on the same date.

It was stated that the move had been made for the purposes of live TV, however, this only applied for oversea viewers. The match being shown as part of ‘overseas TV rights’ , with fans in the UK not able to watch.

An interesting update from the Lancashire Telegraph on the story with details of how much the clubs will be paid in return for the move.

Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers will each get £50,000 extra due to it being moved and screened live overseas.

I can only assume that there has been a major change in terms of the overseas TV deals for the FA Cup, as the Lancashire Telegraph also report, that there are in fact only 10 of the 32 FA Cup third round ties going ahead at 3pm on Saturday 5 January.

On top of the matches that had already been picked for live TV coverage in the UK, there are all of these picked overseas TV selections:

Saturday, January 5

AFC Bournemouth v Brighton & Hove Albion (12.30pm)

Burnley v Barnsley (12.30pm)

Sheffield Wednesday v Luton Town (12.30pm)

Shrewsbury Town v Stoke City (12.30pm)

West Bromwich Albion v Wigan Athletic (12.30pm)

West Ham United v Birmingham City (12.30pm)

Bristol City v Huddersfield Town (5.30pm)

Crystal Palace v Grimsby Town (5.30pm)

Newcastle United v Blackburn Rovers (5.30pm)

Norwich City v Portsmouth (5.30pm)

Sunday, January 6

Fulham v Oldham Athletic (2pm)

Millwall v Hull City (2pm)

Preston North End v Doncaster Rovers (2pm)

Queens Park Rangers v Leeds (2pm)

The newspaper also says that if the game ends in a draw, a reply would take place at Ewood Park on Tuesday 15 January.
