Steve Howey quotes ‘very good source’ saying Newcastle takeover news is set to be announced in next 5 days

Steve Howey has said that the Premier League have been informed of a Newcastle United takeover now going ahead, according to a ‘very good source’ of his.

The former Newcastle and England defender says that the source also told him that news is due to be made public ahead of the Manchester United match.

This takes place on Wednesday night, only five days away.

With so many false dawns in the past, Steve Howey is careful to use the word ‘apparently’, four times in only a few sentences.

Journalists were quick to say that there was definitely interest in buying the club, once Mike Ashley went on Sky News 25 days ago (3 December) to announce/claim that a sale of the club was imminent.

However, despite that, Newcastle fans, not surprisingly, continue to be sceptical/cynical as to the chances of it actually becoming reality.

Steve Howey even admits that despite it being a very good source, he still told them ‘I’ll believe it when I see it.’

For any sale to go through, approval from the Premier League would be needed, and in the past it has been claimed this would take a matter of weeks for the PL to do the necessary checks.

I have always thought that if we ever did reach that point, where the matter is passed to the Premier League for approval, that would be when surely news would definitely be leaked or even made public.

Like Steve Howey and pretty much all other Newcastle fans, I also take the view that whilst I obviously hope things are moving this time, seeing is most definitely believing.

Steve Howey speaking to BBC Radio Newcastle:

“I have heard from a very good source the other day, that with regarding the [Newcastle United] takeover.

“Apparently a takeover was a lot further down the line than everybody apparently know[s].

“Apparently, the Premier League have been informed of this.

“And apparently, news was supposed to be going to be brought out before the Man Utd game.

“When I spoke to my source about this, when they told me, I sort of said again, as always, ‘I’ll believe it when I see it.’

“It is a very good source though.”
