Rafa Benitez is surely set to be handed the Premier League Manager of the month for November.

The Newcastle boss looks to have only two real competitors and the trophy will surely be heading to St James Park.

Only three managers have a 100% record in November.

Rafa Benitez of course having overseen a remarkable bounce back to form, no wins in the opening 10 Premier League matches after being forced to make a £20m+ profit on transfer deals this summer, has been followed by a trio of November victories.

Newcastle beating in-form top seven clubs Watford and Bournemouth at St James Park, then Burnley at Turf Moor.

The other two managers with 100% records are Pep Guardiola and Mauricio Pochettino.

Manchester City won 4-0 at West Ham, plus beaten Man Utd 3-1 and Southampton 6-1 at the Etihad.

Tottenham meanwhile beat Chelsea 3-1 at Wembley and also won away 3-2 at Wolves and 1-0 at Crystal Palace.

Obviously very good results for both teams but when you look at the respective squads, Rafa Benitez must surely get the November award.

The other three nominations are surely only there to make up the numbers…

Jurgen Klopp:

Picked up seven points, a draw with Arsenal and wins over Fulham and Watford.

Marco Silva:

Seven points as well, a draw against Chelsea and victories over Brighton and Cardiff.

David Wagner:

Huddersfield Town also got seven points, beating Fulham and Wolves, as well as drawing with West Ham.

The award is decided by combining fan votes with those of a panel of football ‘experts’ to decide the winner, which will be announced on Friday 14 December.

Make sure you vote HERE before 23:59 GMT on Monday, 10 December.

If Rafa does win, it will be his seventh, the previous ones being:

Nov 2005, Dec 2005, Jan 2007, Oct 2008, Mar 2009, Apr 2013

The first five at Liverpool and the final one at Chelsea.

If the Newcastle boss does get the accolade, it will put him clear sixth, this is the all-time record in the Premier League era.

Most Premier League Manager of the month awards:

27 Alex Ferguson

15 Arsene Wenger

10 David Moyes

8 Martin O’Neill, Harry Redknapp

6 Rafa Benitez, Sam Allardyce, Sir Bobby Robson

5 Kevin Keegan, Pep Guardiola, Claudio Ranieri

Most Premier League Manager of the month awards by club:

27 Man Utd

15 Arsenal

14 Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City

13 Newcastle United

Yes quite amazing really, Newcastle would go joint third with those other three if Rafa is successful and only one behind second placed Arsenal.

Newcastle bosses to have won Premier League Manager of the month awards:

6 Sir Bobby Robson

Feb 2000, Aug 2000, Dec 2001, Feb 2002, Jan 2003, Oct 2003

5 Kevin Keegan

Nov 1993, Aug 1994, Feb 1995, Aug 1995, Sept 1995

2 Alan Pardew

Nov 2013, Nov 2014

Obviously an element of luck in terms of were a run of form starts and ends.

In Rafa’s promotion season he only picked up one Championship Manager of the month award, for Oct 2016, the same as Steve McClaren! He got the Nov 2016 one with Derby before being sacked later that season, McClaren has just also picked up the Oct 2018 one with QPR.

In the promotion season, David Wagner won two and Chris Hughton one.

If/when Rafa Benitez picks up the Premier League Manager of the month for November, no doubt he will be crediting everybody else, but it is him.

Lots of reports today that we might be signing ex-Sunderland striker Fabio Borini if AC Milan will sell him cheaply. And, of course, they will; since the start of last season, he’s played 34 games for Milan and scored…2 goals.

I really don’t see the point in signing a Joselu clone who couldn’t score in a brothel. But hey, we’re the only Premier League team that hasn’t got two brass farthings to rub together, so maybe he’s the best we can hope for.

” … couldn’t score in a brothel with a £50 notesticking out of his underpants …” One of Michael Caine`s go-to lines on the Chronic back in the day when that site had a bit of life. Always a good one.
