In an official announcement on Monday afternoon, Newcastle United have confirmed that Rolando Aarons is on his way back to St James Park.

On Saturday, the 23 year old had posted a message (see below) via his Instagram account, thanking Slovan Liberec for his time there and wishing them well for the rest of the season.

Aarons appearing to indicate that another loan to extend his time in the Czech Republic isn’t on the cards.

Still two and a half years left on his contract, it remains to be seen what Rafa Benitez does.

He is desperate to add a better quality winger but having given Rolando Aarons only two league starts in his entire time as manage, and Aarons failing to get a single league goal or assist in his loan spells in Italy and the Czech Republic, very difficult to see him fitting the bill.

Newcastle United official announcement:

‘Rolando Aarons played the final game of his loan spell at Czech side Slovan Liberec on Saturday as they signed off for the winter break with a 0-0 draw at Bohemians 1905.

The winger started at the Dolicek Stadium, playing 90 minutes for Zsolt Hornyak’s men before being replaced in the dying moments of the contest.

That stalemate in the Czech First League brought the curtain down on Aarons’ half-season loan spell, and the player is now due to return to Tyneside on 1st January.

In total, the 23-year-old played 13 games for the Modrobili, who he leaves in eighth place in the division as domestic competitions are paused until February.’

The Mag – 15 December 2018:

Rolando Aarons is on his way back to Newcastle United.

The winger’s loan spell at Slovan Liberec has ended.

Left without a shirt number or place in Rafa Benitez’ Premier League squad, Rolando Aarons made a loan move in August to the lowly domestic league of the Czech Republic.

Saturday’s final match was a drab 0-0 draw at Bohemians 1905, Rolando Aarons subbed off in injury time.

The game played in front of only 3,041 spectators.

Only starting eight of the club’s 19 league matches, nevertheless Aarons claimed ‘I loved my time here, the club is one big family and I will miss everybody there.’

The Czech Republic league now breaks for winter and doesn’t return until February.

The NUFC player appearing to make clear he won’t be coming back after the new year.

Rolando Aarons didn’t manage a single goal or assist (stats via WhoScored) in his Czech Republic league matches and it was the same last season on loan when relegated with Hellas Verona from Serie A.

Indeed, you have to go back to the 2015/16 season for the player’s last league goal or assist.

With still two and a half years left on his contract, it remains to be seen what happens next.

However, impossible to see Rafa Benitez having any role for the winger in the second half of this season, indeed, it would be amazing if he even got a place in the 25 man PL squad for the second half of the season.

Surely the only option is to find another loan option in January elsewhere.

Rolando Aarons:

“Thanks so much for the experience (at Slovan Liberec).

“I loved my time here, the club is one big family and I will miss everyone there.

“I wish everyone the best for the second half of the season!!”
