Newcastle United draw Sunderland in Checkatrade Trophy!

Newcastle United have found out their last 16 Checkatrade Trophy opponents.

The game is on, Saturday has seen Newcastle United’s kids draw the Sunderland first team in Checkatrade Trophy!

The Mackems drawn at home to the NUFC Under 21s.

The Checkatrade Trophy third round (last 16) draw took place at 12.20pm today (Saturday 8 December) live on Sky Sports.

The last 16 games are to be played week commencing Monday 7 January 2019.

(Quarter-Finals w/c Monday 21 January 2019, Semi-Finals – w/c Monday 25 February 2019, Checkatrade Trophy Final – Sunday 31 March 2019)

The Newcastle team taking part as an Under 21 side and they made it four wins in a row this week gainst senior teams from Leagues One and Two in the competition so far this season.

They did it the hard way (watch highlights HERE), winning 5-3 on penalties against Macclesfield on Tuesday after a 1-1 draw, Elias Sorensen scoring for NUFC with his 18th goal of the season.

Sunderland also progressed to the last 16 on Tuesday, their senior team beating League Two Notts County 2-0.

When it comes to prize money, Newcastle United have so far banked £50,000, This coming form £10,000 for each of their three group wins and then £20,000 for last night’s round of 32 victory.

If they win the last 16 game it is another £40,000, whilst if they went on to win the whole thing, in total over all rounds it would see NUFC bank £290,000.

Group Stage: £10k for a win and £5k for a draw

Round Two: £20k for a win

Round Three: £40k for a win

Quarter Final: £50k for a win

Runner-up: £50k

Winner: £100k
