Newcastle 1 Wolves 2  – Sunday 9 December 4pm

We asked a number of our regular writers to give us a brief instant reaction after the final whistle.

Newcastle losing for the second home match in a row after having to play for over half an hour with 10 men.

Cruelly losing to an injury time goal.

Ben Cooper:

“It is always a cruel way to lose a game when you concede in the very last seconds but the warning signs were there as NUFC over-committed in the last 15 minutes on several occasions.

“Down to 10 men after an hour when Yedlin was sent off for a last man pull of the shirt on a Wolves attacker, it was a very un-Benitez-like way to see out the game and I’m sure he will be furious.

“Perez will get some grief for giving the ball away so cheaply but the midfield and defence will have questions to answer for letting their forward run with the ball for so long and get a shot away.

“After a fully committed team performance, they all have lessons to learn or suffer the painful consequences.”

Toon Bano:

“10 men or not, we aren’t going to stay up with a home record like ours.

“7 defeats at home already is a disgraceful return.

“If Newcastle Utd need to rely on their away form to stay in the Premier league then we all know we are screwed.”

George Stainsby:

“I don’t think we deserved to lose.

“Wolves took their final chance, while we didn’t.

“I would love to see passes that take advantage of the space being offered by runners, but either the runner isn’t seen, or isn’t expected, so the chances either become half-chances or fizzle into ‘nowt.

“Cracking header for our goal from Perez.

“Doomed? No.

“Worrying? Unless we start winning again, yes.”

Nat Seaton:

“Really hard to take…

“Scrappy game with very few chances.

“Considering we played over 30 minutes with 10 men, a point wouldn’t have been a bad result, but that was snatched away right at the death, gutted!”

David Punton:

“Absolute cruelty at St James Park today.

“A controversial red card for Yedlin left us battling desperately to save a point, and we looked to have pulled it off before a final lapse and a twist of the knife that was classic Newcastle United.

“That Mike Dean decided to dismiss our right back on 58 minutes was a big call  and many will say the wrong one. It was oh so costly.

“Another big talking point was some poor play from our skipper today. It is fair to say that wasn’t Lascelles’ best game for the club.

“It hurts. It stings. It’s a nightmare and it leaves us stuck on 13 points having lost  seven at home by December. It’s eye wateringly bad.

“But we have to go again and the players have to keep pushing to get us out of this relegation scrap.

“Any chance we can avoid Mike Dean taking any more of our games?”

Brian Standen:

“Unlucky. To a degree

“Possible penalty at 1-1 – in fact just seen it.  Nailed on!

“Wolves were disappointing for all their class, what class? We were as good!

“Toxic attitude at SJP not helping, one way or another fans need to to unite or it’s gonna be hard here perpetually.

“Fingers crossed changes off the pitch soon!

“Hard result to take but those staying away can have quiet smile of satisfaction.”

Jonathan Drape-Comyn:

“Stonewall red card, I don’t think any rational United fan can debate that.

“If you try to debate it, then just imagine that happening at the other end and a red card not being given.

“Mike Dean has never been friendly to us but he didn’t get much wrong today.

“Some calling for a red for an elbow on Perez, but I didn’t see anything but a natural coming together.

“Again, if that was the other way around and a red was given you would be doing your nut.

“I would much rather spend time looking at our own performance which at the end of the day wasn’t good enough.

“Five at the back didn’t work, especially with Ritchie at left wing back.

“Half-time sub makes no sense.

“No Murphy in the squad but injured Kenedy and Dummett make it onto the bench. All fair questions to be asked.

“You win some, you lose some. Two more big games coming up now for United.”

Paul Patterson:

“That should put beyond any doubt that Yedlin isn’t a full-back and we should be playing 5-3-2.”

Anthony Stafford:

“Lost interest when Yedlin got sent off and why the fuss? He pulled the guy back last man off….

“As usual  Mike look at me Dean takes centre stage and he will have plenty to get excited about tonight.

“Haven’t the foggiest what we have done to him but he is absolutely useless reffing us.

“As usual he didn’t disappoint centre-half elbows our guy no penalty and I bet there is no retrospective action either, errr didnt see it guv..

“Saying that, we cant defend, their man wondered through like a shoplifter at Tescos and you knew what was coming.

“Memo to defence, get the ball and take it to the corner, easy.

“Another 3 points down the pan, depressing.

“Back to uncle Mike’s pretend sale.

“Lord save us from this tripe…”

Joselu for rondon very strange. 11 men on the pitch and we would of come away with a draw. Need a win against Huddersfield now, we seem to play better away from home anyway, less pressure. Too many thickle fans in st james these days.

    • Realist

Milburn Taylor I was in the Trent till 10 to 4 messaged you on previous article but no show, gobsh1te what you are.

      • Scoutingfromtherooftops

Have you two not kissed and made up yet?

        • Realist

No he went quiet. It’s comical on here.

          • Kenny

Oh look a troll answering a another troll or is it himself.
grow up you stupid [email protected] you don`t even live in Newcastle.

          • Realist

I live in Newcastle kenny not going to say exactly where. Your local is the Denton. Fancy a pint sometime? I mean it when I say things, I’m no gobsh1te like majority of trolls like yourself.

        • Kenny

[email protected]@king A$$hole. you`re another braindead piece of schiit

    • Superdooperhooper

Thickle? Is that a portmanteau word?
A cross between thick and fickle ?

      • Realist

Aye something like that. The mag is an English exam these days.

        • Superdooperhooper

Just making a joke . You can console yourself that you earn three times as much as me. Even if you are illiterate……

          • Realist

  • Ashley-out

that Standen is a real one, the implication that the fans are to blame,
similar to the moron below me. stonewall penalty by Yedlin.

    • Tweed Mag

They ask for unity, but then spend half their time winding up others who don’t share their thoughts. Everyone will feel gutted after losing in the last minute of the game, so leave it there. Two winnable games coming up, go for it.

      • Realist

Not bothered what’s other people’s thoughts are they are entitled to their opinion. Just cant stand the likes of Kenny etc milburn Taylor wished me dead yesterday said he’d done 3 months inside for gbh if I wanted some whatever that is in his mind, probably involves a bar of soap. I thought it meant something else so told him to come to the Trent today, didn’t here from him. What a surprise. It’s people like this im not a fan of anyone else I’m fine with each to their own.

        • Leazes.

Why don’t you sign up so I can block you?

          • Realist

No leazes as in life you have to hear other people’s opinions.

          • Rich Lawson

But then he could abuse you and block you,if he had thought about it ?

        • Rich Lawson

You’ve come on here, which is not your own sight to keep slagging us off !! Then you get a negative response, just make your statement and leave, that would be so much classier.

          • Realist

But at the same time the site is not yours. I said they other day this site should be renamed the mike Ashley nufc hate site. I only wind up people who have had a go at me and who deserve it. Some weirdo wishing me dead is below the belt, I’d never wish that upon anyone but life is cheap to some people. I respect everyone’s opinion doesn’t mean I agree with them all the time but I respect it. If people don’t like my stance just don’t respond to anything I post, simple as that mate.

      • Brian Standen

That’s the same on both sides of the Ashley created divide!

        • Tweed Mag

Probably, but now you have recognised the cause stop pouring petrol on the fire. Ashley is the problem, not the fans. We all want to have a successful team!!

    • Brian Standen

Wow. Hard one to take. Gutted we lost and ref did not help! That said we keep waiting and hoping for something to change.
Wolves surprisingly were ordinary but still won. Yeah gutted!

  • robbersdog

We can all look for excuses, but the problem is bleedin’ obvious – we have a pisspoor, underfunded squad and all of Mike Ashley’s chickens are coming home to roost.

Our club is out of petrol, it’s running on fumes and our only hope is a new owner.
Whether we stay up or get relegated, if, at the end of the season Ashley is still in situ and Rafa leaves, then we are well and truly f*cked.

  • RO-bert

”Toxic attitude at SJP not helping, one way or another fans need to to unite or it’s gonna be hard here perpetually.’

“Hard result to take but those staying away can have quiet smile of satisfaction.”

I don’t think anymore was smiling at another home loss, whether they stayed away or attended. I feel like blaming the fans is a get out clause to often now.

    • Brian Standen

Again can’t argue. Just feel there is so much negativity. Yeah Ashley caused it!

      • East Durham Mag

        He has.

  • Superdooperhooper

Brian you’re talking rubbish. The atmosphere has nothing to do with it. How many times does it have to be said ? Spectators don’t win or lose matches ! Players do and ours aren’t good enough

    • Brian Standen

I can’t really argue to be fair! I just feel it’s so negative!

      • East Durham Mag

What is there to be positive about Brian? We are rubbish due to the lack of investment in the squad. That is down to Fatty not the fans. 50,000 sheep are playing into Fattys hands.

        • Brian Standen

Nothing at all at the moment!
Disagree with you using the term sheep – it’s hard to pack in when you paid in advance for tickets!
If a game was to be targeted for a boycott it should have been the Blackburn game – even though it’s cheap people have to pay!
A four figure crowd would send out a strong message!

      • HarryHype59

Seven defeats in nine home matches explains the ‘negativity’.

      • Rich Lawson

Don’t,the Wolves fans stuck in the gods never stopped singing, although i couldn’t understand any of it.The home atmosphere at St James’s is becoming an urban myth.

        • Brian Standen

Totally agree – the atmosphere has died over last few years!
Only one man to blame because while there is division there will never be an improvement!

          • Rich Lawson

I’d have to disagree there and say that to many working class singers have been priced out and because of the seating have difficulty gathering together, let alone going to the match. The forcing together of away fans, even in the gods works against us because anyone who has paid for the trip is generally a proper supporter and will join in unison. Same thing when we’re away,it’s the hardcore together singing ?

          • Brian Standen

Can’t argue with that at all, I still go away and the atmosphere is much better

    • degs01

Some players are better away from home than at SJP. 50 thousand critics on the shoulders of bargain players wont help them improve

  • BigHairyDog

Who created the toxic atmosphere? The fans, the players, the manager or the FCB and his cronies Bishop, Barnes and Charnley?
Ashley created it in his divide and conquer tactics, only Ashley can put it right by either running the club properly or by clearing off and letting someone who wants to invest take over.

  • molend

I know I’m always complaining, but I thought today was a decent effort. Having said that, it’s a million miles away from going to the match to see your team play entertaining football. I suspect a lot of people will disagree with this, but for me Diame’s been very poor in the last two matches. Against Everton, 8 minutes in, loose ball in their penalty area, very half-hearted ‘challenge’. And today, didn’t win any win anything that I could see. Perez, on the other hand, did a lot better.

  • Carverlier football

Yeah Brian, it’s all the fans’ fault…

  • Kenny

Trolls are out of their bins i see,
funny how they all seem to appear within minutes of each other.
Standen leading the charge as usual, Oh it`s the nasty fans.
Jesus Wept, over & out schitt heads

    • Kenny

P.S. don`t bother replying you moron i`m off to kip dreaming that one day Rafa`s bus will hit you head on and take the whole sorry lot of you to hell.
      Ciao Nonces

      • Realist

😂🤣 aye your defintley simple minded, abit backward.

  • TheFatController

Imagine that team, but managed by Gordon Strachan.

Why wee Gordon ? Because he’s the type Ashley gets in.

Been in the PL as a manager, been average at best, glad of the job, won’t have a big plan for the club, just manage it for a few years for shots and giggles til found out.

Rafa managing us is a bizarre freak of circumstance. Unless Ashley sells we’ll never have a good manager again.

In our lifetime. 11 years is getting on for 10% of the club’s history. Think about that.

    • mentalman

There’s a manager in the strachan stable of managers, currently working in the prem who spent less than us and has his team above us and scored more goals than us

      • TheFatController

I’m not sure what your point is? Everyone has spent more than Rafa, is that why you don’t cite a name. Who else has to manage a club with the intense negativity Rafa faces?

Your comment is rendered totally lacking in credibility because we all know a rubbish manager won’t get players and fans onside at a club with 50k crowds who’ve won nothing for 50 years and are totally dejected.

You talk chalk and cheese comparisons by doing one criteria – spend – and providing no evidence – woeful. Try harder .

  • Mike

awful game. players honest hardworking but no good enough.

  • KennySamsung

Lascelles looked a stone overweight and slow, Yedlin? can’t explain his actions other than p**s poor defending. Overall quite a good performance which we deserved to win except for pathetic game management at the end.

We need a captain who knows what he is doing, unlucky to lose Fernandez but the killer blow really was the sending off not the incidents that the ref got wrong.
