Michael Owen makes most unlikely sounding prediction for Newcastle United
Michael Owen has been looking at the game at Vicarage Road on Saturday.
The former Newcastle striker coming up with maybe the most unlikely prediction of all for his old club.
Owen forecasts that Newcastle United will be involved in a ‘thriller’ against Watford.
Now I would like to believe this is possible…but based on all evidence so far this season, thriller/thrilling isn’t what you would ever associate with NUFC at the minute.
Newcastle fans understand, at least up to a point, why Rafa Benitez feels he has to do what he does when it comes to trying to eke out results in order to hopefully avoid relegation.
However, no club has had less goals in their matches this season, despite the four for Liverpool on Boxing Day, only 40 goals have been scored in the 19 matches involving Newcastle, 26 conceded and a measly 14 for Rafa’s players.
Not sure what he bases it on but Michael Owen states: ‘I expect United to score but Watford to edge a thriller.’
If Newcastle are to get any kind of positive result then it will surely be similar to how they beat the Hornets at St James Park.
Decent defending as well as riding their luck at the back, then find a goal from somewhere, with the set-piece that Perez scored the winner from as likely as anything.
Owen a predicted Newcastle to score but get beat 2-1. That would be no comfort to Rafa Benitez but his team have looked less and less like scoring in recent games, scoring a breakaway winner at Huddersfield, not a single shot on target against Fulham, then Joselu wasting the two decent chances carved out for him in the hammering by Liverpool.
So far, it has been all or nothing at home for Watford, winning against Palace, Tottenham, Brighton, Huddersfield and Cardiff, but losing to Man Utd, Bournemouth, Liverpool and Chelsea.
Ominous that as well as beating Spurs, they have tended to punish the weaker teams at home.
Michael Owen talking to BetVictor:
“Watford have won their last three home games against Newcastle in all competitions and the Hornets will be looking for revenge having been, arguably, unfortunate to lose the reverse fixture at St James Park earlier in the season.
“The Hornets were undone by an Eden Hazard inspired Chelsea midweek.
“While Newcastle found Liverpool too hot to handle at Anfield.
“I expect United to score but Watford to edge a thriller.
“Correct score: Watford 2 Newcastle 1 8/1”
