Liverpool fans comments before AND after hammering Newcastle United – Interesting

Liverpool fans had plenty to say ahead of the Boxing Day match and even more to say after it!

Fair to say that they were full of confidence beforehand with their comments (see below) and after this four goal victory, many of them seem to think the league title is already won.

With Manchester City now seven points behind after their latest defeat, Spurs are in second, Liverpool with a six point lead.

The Liverpool fans in their comments after the game full of ‘Too easy’ and ‘It’s getting boring now’, they do have a good team but they were gifted this one.

I actually didn’t think the scousers played all that well until two up, thanks to a combination of Salah’s cheating and the generosity of Lascelles and the referee.

Of course once two up, Liverpool were dominant, but before that point I don’t think they had shown much.

As they say though, the victors write history and all Newcastle fans can think about, is when we will have any hope of things improving.

Comments from Liverpool fans before and after the match, via their top Liverpool FC Forum message board:

PRE-MATCH:

‘Although I still respect Rafa a lot, I wouldn‘t mind the reds teaching them a lesson.’

‘We’re going to cut through them like a hot knife through butter.’

‘Wish it wasn’t Rafa though.’

‘We will welcome him home as always before the game.

Smash him and his team during the game.

Then give him a hug and a kiss and send him on his way after the game.’

Welcome home Rafa.’

‘I reckon few of the lads might be rested with Arsenal and City coming.’

‘There’s no sentimentality when we’re going for the league. Smash Newcastle first and then pay our respect for Rafa.’

‘Newcastle had 0 shots on target at home to Fulham….’

‘I keep saying it, i’ll keep it up as it’s working, but i feel like we will eventually drop points in one of these lesser games as it would be miraculous to stay 100% all season, as much as we are awesome right now and look capable of doing it.’

‘We can’t drop any points. We got to treat this Newcastle game like it is the last of the season. We can’t afford big heads.’

‘The best supported team in the land, top of the league and game not live on TV on Boxing Day, what’s that all about?’

‘This will be a tight affair. Rafa’s team do not concede many away from home.

I can see this one ending 1 nil or 2-1 to us.’

‘I think the pattern will be pretty much the same as recent games but we’ll put three or four past them in the end. Fairly tight after taking an early lead but eventually wearing them down and winning comfortably.’

‘Rafa will camp his team about 4 yards from his own goal line. Then it’s up to us to push it in.’

POST-MATCH:

‘Too easy, are these bottom half teams serious?’

‘Should have been about seven nil!

Superb performance again. We’re really ramping things up now.’

‘Thought Newcastle was the worse team that have come to Anfield this season.

Feel sorry for Rafa in some ways but even so the team he picked was virtually an acceptance that he knew he was going to lose.

Didn’t pick Perez and Rondon, just wrong in my view.’

‘Rafa can’t really complain when he leaves his biggest goal threat on the bench.’

‘Agreed – if this was a statement to Ashley well maybe I understand.

I always had a soft spot for Newcastle given all the connections with us. Very sad to see their decline.’

‘They’re awful to watch, as bad as any side in the league.

I get that Benitez has been hamstrung, but he also sets that team up.

I hope they go down, I also hope he gets a job elsewhere in the Premier League at a club that’s stable.’

‘The question is can anyone ‘seriously’ see where are next draw will be let alone our 1st defeat.’

‘I predicted 3-0 final score we were that comfortable but happy to be proved wrong.

Final score of 6 or 7 would not have been harsh on Newcastle – they were worse than bang average.’

‘We’re a brilliant team that’s winning games on its own terms now.

Training season at times and totally dominated from start to finish.

We’re quality, end of.’

‘Job done.

Solid performance and some nice goals.

Never a penalty in a million years mind.

What a Christmas.

Tough tough 2 games coming up let’s not get carried away.’

‘Haven’t dropped a single point against teams outside the traditional big six

That is quite an accomplishment.’

‘Nice to see us banging in the goals again, Newcastle or not.’

‘What a professional performance for a routine win.’

‘Complete control for 90 minutes. Wasn’t a pen for me but it wouldn’t have mattered.’

‘Forgot Man City being the best PL team ever….

We are currently heading for that title.’

‘Nice professional performance that. some nice goals and a well deserved win.. hardly seemed to get out of 1st gear, but it was enough.. nice habit. half a season unbeaten, brilliant.’

‘It’s getting boring now.’

‘I’m only going to get worried when I see Van Dijk breaking sweat during a game!’

‘He was asleep for that early Joselu header – ball watching!’

‘Hopefully we’ve wrapped it up way before May.’

‘Within the first minute we were already playing like a side who don’t just think about winning, more like by how many. Then near the end Alisson as well absolutely hellbent on preserving the clean sheet. Class back to front.’

‘Another intriguing game.

Some here may bemoan the scoreline but it is extremely difficult to play against sides that simply don’t want to play.

The Final 3rd gets congested and it becomes a game of chess trying to unlock what little space there is.

We don’t panic as a side and that has got us to where we are.

Newcastle has offered absolutely nothing, and that was their plan from the get go.’
