Liverpool 4 Newcastle 0 – Instant NUFC fan/writer reaction to Boxing Day knockout
Liverpool 4 Newcastle 0 – Wednesday 26 December 3pm
We asked a number of our regular writers to give us a brief instant reaction after the final whistle.
Newcastle gifting Liverpool the opener after 11 minutes and fading badly as the game went on.
Rafa’s team move on to Watford on Saturday…
“Toothless, listless, lifeless.
“Feel sorry for all the fans who made the journey down.
“Feels like the beginning of the end for Rafa.
“Will be a sad end to what had (and still just about has) potential to be a great, mutually-beneficial situation.
“Ashley Out! Please, please, please!”
“Expected us to get beat, but 4-0 is disappointing, albeit it against the team at the top of the table.
“Halfway through the season with only 17 points doesn’t fill me with much hope for the second half of the season.
“Here’s hoping for a better outcome on Saturday against Watford.”
“Well run, well funded club 4. Badly run, poorly funded cub 0.
“To borrow a quote off Jurgen Klöpp, that was not cool.
“It was entirely expected though, given the level to which the two respective teams are budgeted. The chasm is huge.
“Liverpool are playing the best football in the land right now, so we all knew a defeat was nailed on, that Rafa left out his best striker was still a surprise.
“There has been a lot of comment on social media since the Fulham game that Benítez has to shoulder more blame. It’s a big talking point.
“But let’s nail one indisputable fact – Mike Ashley’s tight fisted operation is the root cause of all this misery.
“He won’t invest in Newcastle United, but neither does it seem he wants to sell it, and give it the fresh start that it so badly needs.
“The outcome today was more festive misery for Mags but somewhat put into perspective by the news about John Tudor’s Alzheimer’s battle.”
“I’ve seen us lose 4-0 at Anfield with a much better team than this, and at times with a much worse referee than this, so all in all a heavy defeat wasn’t completely unexpected.
“It was abysmal though.
“The team were rotten and while not all of the individual performances were rotten, as a collective unit it was.
“Every player, the manager and the owner need to take a long, hard look at themselves.
“In no way was this anywhere near good enough.”
“Did Rafa throw the game with his team selection?
“Although I think most fans would do the same given the amount of games over christmas and the fact we have more winnable games coming up.
“Not sure what anyone else would expect from the result.
“No positives though.”
“I feel we’ve just been beaten off the Champions elect.
“Men against boys,
“Champions League vs Championship.”
“Another loss at Anfield.
