Intriguing Fulham fans comments on Aleksandar Mitrovic ahead of facing Newcastle United

The early signs for Fulham fans were that Aleksandar Mitrovic and the Premier League were going to get along just fine after his permanent £22m (could rise to £27m) deal was sealed.

Free scoring in the Championship, both Mitro and Fulham looked set to continue that in the top tier.

Not necessarily take the Premier League by storm but their attacking formation, with Aleksandar Mitrovic at the sharp end of it, looked very capable of delivering an entertaining rollercoaster ride of plenty goals at both ends of the pitch, but also enough points to see Fulham in a healthy/decent league position.

The first six games saw Fulham win one, draw two and lose three, though two of the defeats were away at Man City and Spurs. Mitro scoring five times in those six games.

However, the next 11 PL matches have seen nine defeats, one draw and the only win a 3-2 over Southampton with Aleksandar Mitrovic getting his only goals (two) in three months.

Meanwhile at the other end of the pitch they are attempting to set all kinds of records, already 42 conceded (next PL club highest is 33), with a massive 24 conceded in nine away games.

So what do Fulham fans make of Aleksandar Mitrovic now?

Like Newcastle fans before them, there are clear divisions, so is he part of the solution or part of the problem?

Only 16 goals scored and Mitro has scored seven of them and got two assists, so any positives there have been this season, the former Newcastle player as tended to be involved.

Some interesting debate amongst Fulham fans ahead of the game at St James Park…

Fulham fans comment on Aleksandar Mitrovic via their top Fulham Web message board:

‘Don’t know if you remember but Mitro. couldn’t get in Newcastle’s team.

The days of the big lumbering centre forward are long gone.

The better teams have pace all over the pitch and are geared up for counter-attacking. Slow build ups are easy to defend against as the defence has time to recover.’

‘Mitro isn’t the problem here. He’s our best defender on set pieces for starters. His touch is beautiful, Kamara needed to finish that pass. He needs the ball more, not less.’

‘How many fans are saying that the chances Kamara is having, coming his way that Mitro would have put away?

Mitrovic needs to earn and graft for those chances he apparently would have put away. There are too many ifs and buts around Mitrovic at the moment. We know he isn’t the greatest pace-man, but still if only he could put in more of a shift.

I am not sure if Mitrovic is still interested in staying at Fulham now? He needs to show a lot more if he is. Recruitment in January will make or break our season.

Another striker is needed and it will be expensive. Assuming that Mitro is staying?’

Mitrovic hasn’t produced much lately.

It is well documented that Mitro was voted Serbian player of the year, and he earned that accolade. Mitrovic completed lots of game-time for Serbia. Maybe this is why he seems a touch lethargic for Fulham and not on his game lately?

If we go by stats, there is always one team that we can turn over every time we play them, and that could be Newcastle in the last few seasons.

This game is extra spice for Mitro, and a chance to stick one to Benitez.

A return to form for the big guy and a welcome return of Sessegnon could reap dividends up at Newcastle. We can create and move the ball well when we put our minds to it.

If we can beat Southampton, and Southampton turn over Arsenal, (with a change of manager) we are capable and can beat Newcastle with more self-belief…’

‘Mitro has put on record he only signed for the club because of Slav. Have you heard any of the other signings mention that they’ve spoke to the coach before the transfer and wanted to be part of his plans for the future again like the norm! The facts are there for all to see!’

‘Now that relegation seems inevitable, who do you think that will stay with us in the Championship. Will Claudio want to manage in the lower Division, and will our Championship stars such as Sessingnon and Mitro want to give it another go ? Personally I wouldn’t care too much if we do go down, as I would rather support a team that at least wins it fair share of it’s matches then lose nearly all over a season.’

‘Sess & Mitro will be gone, Don’t think there will be many PL teams interested in TC, he has not trained on (racing term) & is no captain.’

‘Mitro looks unhappy without his Serbian boss and Sess in constantly played out of position which he will only put up with for a while.’

‘The team is completely makeshift due to the fact that the players signed to play in their positions are so poor we’ve had to compromise. We have Centre backs playing left back, right backs playing centre backs and centre back playing as a defensive midfielder. Despite all this Mitro is still I best defender from opposition set pieces.’

‘We have known from day one Mitro cannot play on his own up front. At the end of the day this is down to the manager and the players.’

‘Mitro is one card away from suspension- so cant put himself about as much as he usually does.’

‘Everyone quite rightly bemoans Fulham’s woeful defense. But lack of offensive production is also quite worrisome. Fulham have been shut out in the majority of matches, 9 out of 17, and have scored more than one goal in only 4 matches. Mitro is quality.’

‘This is the problem George’ we know our back 4 have lapses in concentration and we always concede goals. Mitrovic at the moment isn’t quality, and Schurrle just doesn’t do it.’
