Huddersfield 0 Newcastle 1 – Instant NUFC fan/writer reaction to Saturday’s win
Huddersfield 0 Newcastle 1 – Saturday 15 December 3pm
We asked a number of our regular writers to give us a brief instant reaction after the final whistle.
Newcastle getting their first win of the month.
A quality team move finished off by Salomon Rondon, not exactly in keeping with the rest of the match.
“A priceless win.
“A low-quality game settled by a move completely out of place, a sweeping United move finished by Rondon.
“The only other moment of quality was a similar move leading to Perez scoring, incorrectly ruled out for offiside.
“If Rafa was asking for VAR last week, he’ll be demanding it now.
“Apart from that, Huddersfield were poor but had most of the ball and dominated a shaky-looking Newcastle in the first half without creating any really good chances.
“The second half, Huddersfield had most of the ball but did nothing with it, NUFC stood strong and solid and were worth the points.”
“Rafa Benitez is the best manager we have ever had away from home.
“His philosophy is tailor made for it.
“Now if we could give him the players with the individual quality to win games at home we would be fighting the top 6, not the bottom 6.
“If Peter Kenyon is out there, scrape together as many pound coins as you can and get this fat B…… dead weight anchor out of our club for good.”
“In the grand scheme of things, that was a must win.
“And we did.
“Seeing defenders coming back who did a good job shows we need to cover those positions properly.
“A great result that gives us a bit of breathing space going into the Christmas fixtures.
“Well done to Rafa and the lads, lets make it 3 more points on Saturday!!”
“David Ginola was on Football Focus at lunchtime and predicted a one nil win for Newcastle.
“I’d have snapped his hand off for that, and so it came to pass in a relegation six pointer that looked tricky after the Wolves loss.
“It should have been 0-2 but for Newcastle and Benítez being on the receiving end of another minging decision from the officials. A clearly onside goal chalked off.
“It was a game that wasn’t all that easy on the eye but for the goal, which was a slick move down the right before Rondon applied a great finish.
“The Venezuelan is starting to click now and he’s been worthy of the number nine shirt on his back.
“We are picking points up on the road, we just need to address the terrible home form.”
“Can’t criticise anyone, fantastic and important win!
“Fans were magnificent, it’s the opposite to the atmosphere at SJP, quite frankly, at the moment we are better away!
“Rondon scored a really good team goal and a special mention for Manquillo whose pass into Rondon was sublime!
“Midfield worked hard against a physical Huddersfield.
“Defensively we were solid again against a team who put a lot of crosses in!
“A massive game/win!
“Currently six points clear of 18th place, which is vital given the fact that we have a difficult run of fixtures over christmas and new year.
“Dread to think where we would be, or which league we would be in, without Rafa Benitez!”
“Well Done Rafa and the lads.
“Da do Rondon don, da do Rondon.”
“What a win.
“They fought everything today: the elements, the officials, a must win game for the opposition.
“One thing we can never doubt about this team is it’s unity and spirit.
“Keep fighting lads!”
