Everton 1 Newcastle 1  – Wednesday 5 December 7.45pm

We asked Joe Dixon to give us his match ratings after Wednesday night’s match.

Newcastle bouncing back with a battling performance and 1-1 draw against Everton.

Rafa’s team now 14th, four points above the relegation zone.

Dubravka 8 – It was seven for an excellent all round display and then an extra point when making a brilliant point blank save.

Yedlin 6 – A typical spirited performance but occasionally caught out of position and not great in defence.

Fernandez 8 – Another very good game, looked very comfortable. Made a superb block shortly before half-time.

Schar 6 – Did alright, especially when the scousers put the pressure on in the first half.

Lascelles 6 – A bit like Schar, did quite well but Everton still had chances first half.

Manquillo 7 – A big improvement compared to Saturday.

Carried the ball forward well at times, as well as doing alright with defensive commitments.

Ki 7 – Tried his best to keep the team together and the team ticking over but with Everton’s better quality he was forced back most of the time.

Decent free-kick delivery helped NUFC put some pressure on at other end.

Diame 6 – Did OK but game passed him by a bit.

With levels of spending, the NUFC midfield were always up against it when facing Everton.

Murphy 6: Did ok and put in a killer left foot cross for Newcastle’s goals.

Atsu 7: A player who must really annoy a manger.

Usually half-hearted, he instead showed all game commitment in pressurising the opposition and could have won it late on, with only Pickford to beat.

Rondon 7  -Took his goal well and had minimal support most of the game.

Hopefully that goal will have taken his confidence back up to the levels against Bournemouth.

Subs:

Joselu 5 – Had a minimal contribution and very much a case of weakening the team when introduced.

Perez 5 – Same again, a case of the squad being so poor that a substitution actually seriously weakens the team in most cases.

Agree with most of them but not the Atsu 7. Ryder gave Manquillo a 4? Not sure what game he watched as i thought Manquillo did a decent job on the left. Hung in for a point which helps toward a possible take over hopefully.

    Schar given MoM on BBC.

Having just watched the highlights I’m a little confused… A lot of chat on the other thread slating Atsu for wasting a gilt-edged chance at the end, something above about only having Pickford to beat… Did they not show that chance on MotD? There was just one where Atsu had to take a shot on his weaker foot, decent shot, decent save, defenders between him and the goal…

    • GeordieZebra

Didn’t show the easier one nearer the end.

      • Carverlier football

I was wondering… Seems an odd choice to leave out such a clear chance

You drunk? Schar outstanding and Atsu (a 7?) missing 2 sitters late on. 3 centre halves and the keeper outstanding (Ki did okay) and we battled away to a positive point. HWTL.

    • Toontaff

      Possession 76 + 44 = yep, he’s drunk!

      • Kenny

        Possession was 24%

You’ll never hear me complain about a point away to Everton, never an easy team to play on the road, though slight disappointment because we could easily have snatched the win.

  • Kenny

the usual suspects again bottom of the list.
why did we pay £9m for Muto when the likes of the Hapless Perez & Hoss are used & he`s left on the bench.
Need them out the door along with Diame & Manquillo.

That’s why Rafa is the manager and not you…

  • Cockneytrev

That’s a very good point considering how weak this squad in,,
For me, murphys ball in for the goal was the highlight of the match, probably the best ball you’ll see all season from a Newcastle player, absolute quality,,
we need far more crosses of this caliber,,,
    Ashley out!!!
