Everton 1  Newcastle 1 – Wednesday 5 December 745pm

We asked a number of our regular writers to give us a brief instant reaction after the final whistle.

Newcastle getting a very credible point on Merseyside.

Rafa’s team taking the lead through Rondon, only for Richarlison to equalise.

Jamie Smith:

“I would have taken that before the game, although Atsu should have robbed us the points.

“Right now it’s difficult not to filter everything through takeover chat, and I see this as a good point towards putting us in a steady position that won’t jeopardise the price agreement over relegation fear.”

Nat Seaton:

“Great result away from home with a spirited performance.

“Another precious point in our bid to stay up with this squad of players…

“Last time I left Goodison Park without that losing feeling Demba Ba scored two, when I think of that team to what we have now I’m more than happy to leave with a point!”

Ben Cooper:

“We never get anything at Everton so that point could be priceless.

“It was hard-earned and hard work at the end and after a decent first half it was backs to the wall at the end.

“Again. Still, NUFC come away with a point against a £300 million team. Well done chaps.”

Paul Patterson:

“I have to say, I was perplexed at Rafa’s team selection but a cracking, well ground out point.

“Well done lads.”

David Punton:

“Goodison Park is never a happy hunting ground for us, so to come away with a point when Everton have spent that much is creditable.

“We’d all have taken a draw from this game if we were offered it before kick off.

“If Christian Atsu could have finished a gilt-edged chance late on then we could have smashed and grabbed a second away win of the season.

“But let us not to be too greedy. After the drubbing from West Ham this was a much welcome outcome.

“Everton are a well organised, well run, well funded football club. They’re evidence of a takeover that has worked out.

“Newcastle went into this amid claims Mike Ashley is about to sell up.

“Chatter is all off the pitch, but thankfully it hasn’t affected the players too much tonight.

“Rafa made his changes, back to three at the back. It’s worked. Murphy and Rondon combining really well for our goal.”

Toon Bano:

“It’s a good point but when you have the capacity to get beat 3-0 at home to West Ham, then if you have the chance to win, you need to take it.

“Atsu missed an absolute sitter and another 2 points slips by.

“Gonna be a lot of ups and downs this month. And I don’t mean the Ashley sale nonsense.”

George Stainsby:

“I’ll take that.

“We could have won, but after Saturday, an away point at a ground we don’t do well at has to be a good thing.

“Not sure what to think for the Wolves match.”

Brian Standen:

“Very good bounce back from Saturday – committed all round.

“Dubravka again put in a top man of the match performance.

“Could easily have won AND lost but great result.

“Move the takeover forward and could be a good Christmas.

“Please don’t boycott Wolves because 3 points would be welcome.

“Well  done tonight!”
