Mike Ashley is yet again making headlines.

His TV appearance on Monday night (see below) ensuring he was the biggest topic of conversation for both Newcastle fans and neutrals alike, rather than the next match at Everton on Wednesday.

So what did you make of what the NUFC owner had to say?

Do you think this was the real deal, after more than a decade of misdirection is he genuinely trying to sell the club and is talking to potential buyers, with a sale destined to happen in the very near future, even as early as this month according to Mike Ashley?

Or is it just more of what we have come to expect year after year, the Newcastle United owner yet again pretending to try and sell the club, the whole thing just a farce to justify not backing Rafa in the January transfer window whilst at the same time once more winding the supporters up?

We are just looking for a snapshot of how Newcastle fans are seeing Mike Ashley’s Sky News interview, please vote below.

The Mag – Monday 3 December 2018:

Mike Ashley has announced on Monday night that Newcastle United could be sold before the end of this month.

The NUFC owner stating that talks with the potential buyer are way beyond any previous talks with anybody wanting to buy the club and that it is ‘possible’ a deal could be done and dusted in December – but ‘realistic’ for it to happen this month might be ‘too strong a word’ to use.

Yet again you can’t help but have a small part of you wonder if it could happen at last BUT having over a decade now of the club supposedly being up for sale and a series of supposed near misses, most of us will believe it when we see it.

Predictably, it was Sky where Mike Ashley turned up. With cynics (all of us!) no doubt wondering if his sudden chat about supposedly selling the club, is in any way some part of a PR circus connected to his appearance before a house of commons select committee to talk about ‘saving the high street’ earlier today and/or yet another episode in toying with the hopes of Newcastle fans.

Mike Ashley talking to Sky News:

“I am hopeful for the Newcastle fans, for the club, for everybody, that I will be able to step aside and we will be able to get an owner in that can please everybody.”

‘When will that be?’

“When would I like it to be?

“I would like it to be before the January transfer window.”

‘Is that realistic?’

“Hmmm. Realistic? It’s possible, realistic is maybe too strong a word.

“Hopefully we can carry on the good form…just recent good form…and we can get the deal done.”

‘So you are in exclusive talks with someone right now?’

“Not an exclusive but…

“Talks are at a more progressed stage than they have ever been.”

‘And whoever buys the club would presumably have to put in transfer funds for Rafa Benitez?’

“Yes, I’m very keen to sell it to the right buyer, so everybody is happy, that would be good news.”

  • Dave Pattinson

If he’s messing us around yet again, this time its a pretty big risk he’s taking!

    • nufcslf

Yip, because this story is world wide on all sports talk shows. So was the Stavely none bid as well. He got over that one with no scrapes or bruises quite easily, the rsehole and wouldn’t put it past the c**t again. We shall see.

  • Duh

    Really?

  • Paul Cannell

Just before the Wolves planned boycott game and not long before the transfer window opens. Why the hell would anyone trust this proven liar.

  • Paul Patterson

Dogs learn quicker than some people. This parasite is not for turning . .

  • Lord

Interesting to look at his body language. Fixed eyes and unwavering when asked about serious buyers around. If he’s lying here, he’s very skilled.

See how that changes once asked if the deal is realistic (before Jan). Eyes start going all over the place in every direction. If Noel Edmonds was asking, I’d say ‘no deal’!

    • Kenny

      He`s a natural born liar

      • Wor Lass

It`s a gift. Where`s Peaky, I was going to ask if he has any messages he wants passing on to leazes.

        • Kenny

he said he was blocked, the he wasn`t so i haven`t a clue what`s going on

          • Toontaff

            A tiff!

        • KennySamsung

          😂

  • mactoon

This is just a rinse and repeat of what happened with Staveley in January. Due diligence and satisfying the FA owners’ and directors’ test can take 2-3 months so his hope of getting this done by January seems far fetched to say the least. He also said to the players and manager during the pizza date that he wasn’t selling the club until the summer.

“Hopefully we can carry on the good form…just recent good form…and we can get the deal done.”

Translation: I know you all want rid of me so let’s pretend if you all play well and keep us in the Premiership I’ll be able to attract a buyer when in actual fact it means I don’t need to sell cos I’m still getting the global advertising!

  • nufcslf

After 11 years of talking shyt, why believe a word the piece of sh*t says!!!! Not convinced at all…….

  • Leazes.

I can’t believe 8% can believe that tosh from Ashley….. they must have hit the wrong button.

    • Tweed Mag

It’s Monk using all his aliases

      • Toontaff

        And Jezza!

    • Kenny

We all know who it`ll be

    • Brian Standen

Even I’m not in that minority

  • Geordiegiants

Stupid poll, 40 odd thousand don’t have a problem. There is only a handful of us that do and we all come on here, minus the trolls, the rest only give a f on match days for the social.

    • Steven05

Which really does beg the question – who are they really supporting with their actions, because it’s not for the good of the club

I hate that we are becoming divided, not least because it suits you know who down to the ground, but until the vast majority of us are protesting in any/every way possible, it’s all just too easy for him

    • Realist

Not me Geordie, nufc is the first thing I think off when I wake and last thing I think at night. I’d spend my lasts on club. I will be at everton tommorow then wolves Huddersfield Fulham Liverpool Watford and so on an so forth. I’m not a troll whatever anyone says on here.

      • Geordiegiants

You fit the bill perfectly, you come on here, even Monkseaton / Moscow knows it’s lies and it’s all propaganda regardless of liking him or not. Most of the match goers now are not old style traditional “fans” they watch Newcastle on the day but that’s it. MOST of us boycotters have been replaced with people that go for a day out. That’s not me being facetious its just fact. Whether it’s a good or bad thing im not sure as there is pluses and minus’s, it’s just that it’s a different breed of people that are not proper “fans” now.

        • 1957

We gave up our tickets in the family enclosure this season, I’m told by the guy we sat next to our seats were taken by two Japanese students (clearly not a family) studying at Durham University, who are going because of Muto’s signing… big Mike will sadly always find takers for his product.

          • Ram Kishore

These are the few small things that brings in global fan base for a particular club. They could possibly end up being Nufc fans even after Muto leaves.
Can’t necessarily point fingers on them. They are not a representative of the people who were in the stadium.
Those Japanese students are not takers of Mike Ashley’s product. They are people who took the product because of Muto or Rafa or City of Newcastle etc..
I am sure that there will be atleast 10K locals who dislike the club’s ownership and who have been going on for decades. Still they go.

I could also give another reason. Maybe they are tired of protesting against Ashley for years that they have given up. Just being honest here and am fed with this ‘ proper fans’ debate. Not pointing fingers or anything, just saying

          • 1957

The point isn’t that they are Japanese or their reason for being there, it’s there will always be someone willing to buy available season tickets and as two twenty somethings they don’t meet the normal criteria to take up seats in that area, i.e. a parent and child or children. I have to disagree that they aren’t taking Mike’s product, you pay to go in you are accepting what you watch.

I had been going since 1966 and held a season ticket for over 70% of that time, I don’t class myself as a better supporter than anyone else because of that but I went week in week out during the dark days pre Keegan and I always had hope for the club, now I don’t.

These new bids may come to something, let’s just hope they aren’t from consortia who will fund it by borrowing against the club…a recipe for disaster.

          • Ram Kishore

Absolutely right on the last part.

        • Ram Kishore

Just curious as to what’s the definition of ‘proper fans’?
Because I am not sure what that really means?

          • Geordiegiants

A fan is a “FANATIC” Ram, not a day tripper, spectator or someone that just goes out for the day. A fan is someone that has NUFC’s interests first not their own.

          • Realist

A fanatic is someone who never misses a game home or away whatever day of the week whatever part of the country.

          • Geordiegiants

No it’s not. a person filled with excessive and single-minded zeal, especially for an extreme religious or political cause

  • Wor Lass

Lee Ryder obviously believes it and says, “Ashley has up to three other parties interested in buying the club but has urged them to bid up soon to satisfy his December time frame.” Three OTHER buyers lined up AND a December time frame. Uncle Lee`s going to tell us how to cure cancer and turn water into wine in tomorrow`s edition, boys and girls.

    • Kenny

Ryder, nothing needs to be said on that idiot

      • Realist

I reckon Ryder could punch the lips off ya. That would be amusing.

    • FatParosite

Ryder and the moronic gang have been supporting Ashley for years. They need to be put against the wall when the mutiny starts.

    • BigHairyDog

As soon as I see Lee Ryder’s name appears on an article I dismiss it, the man’s response to being challenged is to block you.

      • Wor Lass

        hat`s why I`m WorLass2 on the Chronic.

    • Toontaff

But he’s not giving away his biggest secret – the perfect cuppa- he doesn’t want to lose his job!

  • Geordiegiants

It’s becoming that common place (the fat sack ofshits spew) I recon the bookies would give odds of it happen again in the summer.

  • FatParosite

Is it any surprise Sky Sports willingly promote his lies? Ashley & Murdoch are dirty peas in a pod. Liars cheats & thieves. I lose zero sleep watching Murdoch channels for nothing. I suggest you do the same. Go get Kodi.

    • porciestreet

      Wouldnt be without it FP.

    • Toontaff

      Is that a euphemism?

      • Leicester Mag

I hope not the thought of this and a sticky Mike Ashley photo is not a pleasant image

  • 45709

Find it hard he became a billionaire by been an honest good boy, without even getting into his NUFC time. Still maybe he’s actually gonna sell to pay rent to all the nasty big boy landlords… utter rubbish

    • Phildene

He wasn’t a billionaire when he bought Nufc. He had about £800-900m and Nufc has to made him a billionaire! He’s raked it all in from here-money that’s ours, not his the thieving sod.

      • 45709

        So that’s what I put, he’s a liar and a thief. I was been sarcastic 👍

  • Peaky

Need to cut Hoss some slack….must be still gutted missing out on The Ballon D’Or to Modric….

    • Kenny

      what happened with Leazes
      😂

      • Geordiegiants

Does anything need to happen 🤯?

        • Leazes.

          no

            Exactly Leazes!

          • Kenny

you must teach me that sometime.

        • Kenny

          you didn`t understand the question,

          • Geordiegiants

Yeah I did 😃Leazes has blocked Peaky!

      • Leazes.

Haven’t you been checking out your chum from Monkseaton then?

        • Kenny

          no been to busy

          • Leazes.

No you haven’t there’s no such place as Busy.

          • Kenny

ok i`ve been watching the debate on tv
May seems as believable as King Rat

Must have been a bit like Onslow reading a book on nuclear physics.

    • KennySamsung

The only d’or Hoss should get is a one with exit on it… sorry fans of his!

  • BigHairyDog

I disbelieve this until the FCB proves me wrong…..
He’s just made his biggest PR blunder, all his allies like Merson, Ameobi and Wise will either fade away or just refuse to comment.

  • graham18

just wish he’d sell and f#ck off

  • Peter C

Do I believe what Mike Ashley said on Monday, in a word, NO.

Just an excuse for not putting his hand in his pocket, and giving the manager the funds which are needed to maintain our premiere league status.

Which more than likely will come back and haunt him, if we more than likely go down, and the manager leaves in the summer.

Ashley is more slippery than a box of eels, and more devious than a Chinaman, He could almost have been a politician, guess there isn’t enough money in politics, for him.

  • drc74

o hope clarsehole can come in and tell us how much it’ll cost in euros, along with Spunkseaton fresh from taking a creamy load from mike in his lift telling everyone how much mike is second to god

  • porciestreet

His lips were moving and we all know what that means…
    FATBASTADOOT
    HWTL.

  • mactoon

The problem is we protest and because the press outside of the North East don’t understand what our true grievances are, once he comes out and says he is selling, it goes global and the national press pick up on that and don’t understand why we are protesting if he is trying to sell it and we get labelled as the whinging Geordies.

On Talk Sport today Jim White was saying “If Ashley is going to sell the club then Surely it is time for the protests to stop and just let him get on with selling it”

They just don’t realise Ashley does this to deflect attention from the protests and the fact that he wont be spending anything in January.

The man should not be involved in football and this latest stunt reinforces my opinion.

    • Kenny

      Jim White, Sky, Ashley.

      • mactoon

Exactly, although Mickey Gray did speak out in defence of the toon fans. This is the platform we need to be putting our argument out there. We need to get the message out there to tell the general public what is happening here!

    • Cockneytrev

      Exactly,,,👏👏
I’ve heard Newcastle fans phone up and not even mention our real grievances, as for Adrian Durham , I think he must have been chinned when he worked on the boat,, he definitely has a grudge against us.

  • Leicester Mag

Whale oil beef hooked if this is true more likely Norfolk and Chance

  • KennySamsung

I have a dream where one day all supporters come together united, fighting for a common black and white cause, marching towards a united United, money in the bag for top top players, smiles on the faces of young and old, every other supporters favourite team.

Sir Rafa Benitez looking down on the masses from his seat (with name on it) watching Shearer (manager of the year) for the 3rd time celebrate another win 2-0 against Man City.

Leaving this new 75,000 seater stadium (10,000 on a waiting list) singing our hearts out, passing a homeless guy who looks just like MA (couldn’t be could it?). The new new owner runs onto the pitch with a SD sucks T shirt on.

    I have a dream… but don’t worry it’s just a dream.

  • Peaky

Going to save you a job tomorrow Mag…..Sorensen has scored again tonight….there you go, no need to mention it anymore…..you’re welcome.

    • Toontaff

Now he can concentrate on his idol, Brylcreem Boy!

  • Sickandtired

I’m pretty sure what actually happened was Fatty’s missus whispered to him that Santa Claus might bring him the present he wants. Ashley thought that Claus is a billionaire foreign buyer.

  • GToon

All he is doing is setting the scene for January. No doubt after the transfer window is closed and no players are signed Ashley will say the sale is unfortunately off. Just like the previous 11 years.

  • NUFCLX

Everyone knows he is talking pony but there is that one little piece of your mind that hopes it is true, just like all the other times he was selling the club.
I will be an ex-season ticket holder by next month if nothing changes or the Wolves Boycott does not get supported but still can’t help thinking what if it is true and Mr Loadsofmoney Buys the club.

  • Johnno

My mate has been to St James park tonight and staff there have been told the club has been sold

    • joe mac

      yeah! rite!

      • Johnno

My mate is a season ticket holder and not known for bullshitting. Just hope it’s true

        • Leazes.

          What is his name?

          • Danimal

It’s probably been “sold” to Lee Charnley or Keith Bishop, or some similar facade to benefit Ashley.

          • Toontaff

He was in the lift, speaking with a Russian accent……….

          • Realist

            What is your name?

  • Tweed Mag

Sky Sports saying Kenyon has been in talks since September and is the front runner. Is he another one of Ashley’s mates?

    • Leazes.

No but Sky Sports are his mate.

  • JohnnyH

If you believe sky, Kenyon is only in ‘advanced’ negotiations as far as he’s still looking for backers to stump up the dosh.
As is now becoming routine, it’ll all go titsup when the window closes no doubt.

    • Tweed Mag

And there is no time to do all the necessary paperwork/regulations. Then Rafa gets nothing for transfers.

      • JohnnyH

I think sky are just helping fatso out with a bit of distraction PR.
Same as last time with the Stavely non-event.

  • Down Under Mag

Watch him talk about $h!te Direct and see how serious he is, then watch these sort of things talking about NUFC and see the smug look, if that doesn’t indicate he is lying I don’t know what does. The man couldn’t lie straight in bed. Even if any deal was a possibility, if we lose a couple of games between now and and the window and slide back down the table then I imagine any interested parties would be considering withdrawing the offer as Ashley won’t allow a relegation clause int he sale…it will then be down to Ashley to call it off or up the price just before the window shuts and not allowing any time for player acquisition.

  • andrew baron

I live in the states can and a biz jet took off from San Francisco at 130pm this afternoon on a flight to Newcastle. Owners are Franklin Templeton Investments. Maybe they are the money behind Kenyon? Due to land in Newcastle about 630am.

    • Danimal

1.30pm to 6.30am? Is the pilot having to flap his arms? Sounds more like an Ashley-owned jet.

      • LA toon

Time difference of 8 hours and a12 hour flight.

        • andrew baron

Whoever it is the plane landed tail number N328MM. Hopefully it is them.

          • LA toon

I suppose I was relating to when I fly back to the UK via DC on scheduled flights!! Having your own jet gets you there faster it seems. Lol

      • andrew baron

Time diff is 8 hours and flight was 9 hours

        • Danimal

Yes of course, sorry! Oh well, we can only hope.

    • Toontaff

      Planespotter!

  • JohnnyH

    Taken from Franklin Templeton Wikipedia page;

“In December 2018 the fund bought Newcastle United FC that wonderful Geordie football club from the evil parasite that is Mike Ashley.”

    Hilarious.

  • Michael Cluffy

P.K and Rockefeller capital management, currently valued at $6.8 BILLION to buy the toon! I must have died and went to Geordie heaven.

    • Geordiegiants

Ha ha lol. It’s unreal isn’t it?
